I listen to Cornette, especially his Drive-Thru as it's less ranty. I'm a big fan, and I assuming his constant ragging on some of the modern workers has to be a work. He must really admire/appreciate a worker's ability to get over, not matter how they do it.
Cornette has been involved in numerous whacky and outlandish angles over the years- scaffold matches for example, being trapped in shark cages, having his face pushed in a cake etc.
My favourite era of wrestling is early to mid 80s and there is a heck of a lot of nonsense gong on there- loser leaves town/Stagger Lee type angles, but we're all in on the joke.

I don't know Joey Ryan too incredibly well, but I know him enough to know that he loves it every time Cornette mentions his name, no matter the context.

I also prefer the drive-thru, though the last few Experience podcasts have featured extended look backs with a ton of behind the scenes stuff. I love that you mentioned the work aspect of the podcast. Cornette and Last, every so often, perform a work on the shows, usually as a promo for some upcoming event. Those are always fun to listen to. I do sometimes get the suspicion that its all a work from Cornette and it'd make sense considering he's so good at it. But its that air of realism again, which is what adds that extra umph to it all. He's a joy to listen to when he gets into his classic pro-wres deep dives. I'm definitely a member of the Cult of Cornette. Still need to get my burger towel though. lol

No matter what you say, pro-wres being exposed fundamentally changed the business and I do think wrestling, as a whole, is worse off for it. I do agree that the business changed, but respectfully disagree that wrestling is worse off for it. I believe that it opened up wrestling for a number of interpretations now. I know I wont change your mind on it, but thats the way I feel. I tend to like the absurd aspects of wrestling and the storytelling much more than the more realistic fight part of the sport. And whats great these days is that both of us can find plenty of what we each like in wrestling through a number of platforms. A great time to be a wrestling fan IMO.

I enjoy listening to Cornette talk about old wrestling and obviously enjoy hearing him rip the Bucks and Joey Ryan types but I completely tune out when he starts talking about politics.

I enjoy his insights and knowledge, but yeah I get tired of Cornette ranting about the current product. He acts as if there was no goofball stuff especially in Memphis (where it happened quite often) Even Mid South had him shoved into a birthday cake. One of the highlights of the last Galacticon was Mr. Jimmyface winning an auction for Cornette art and then tearing it up in front of everyone after a short speech. Someone getting shoved into a birthday cake isn't nearly as absurd as the dick suplex or slow motion wrestling or the grenade spot but hey you can run with that false equivalency if you want. Him ranting about Omega wrestling the little girl has run its coursce and I do think it's a little doofy that he tries to defend some of the goofier Memphis shit, though. Wrestling isn't exactly better off for it, either.

The things I enjoy is all the athleticism of the flips, jumps and acrobatics mixed with some great lock up combinations. That's enjoyable to watch to myself. The silly stuff, like Orange Cassidy does, like falling asleep in a match is alright. The exploding grenade thing was fine when it was done once, the Thunder Frog hammer that hits the mat, knocking everyone over was fun. But like DMK said, looses its novelty when over done. Never been a fan of Ryan's dick thing, yuck!
I do miss the old school mat wrestling aspect of Pro Wrestling, and am a fan of Cornette. He gets the old school thing and is worth listening to. I don't really care for the politics either, but we all take it for what it is.

Wrestling isn't exactly better off for it, either. Thats your opinion and I respect that. But this evolution of the wrestling art made wrestling better and more fun for me personally, and I know I am not alone in that feeling. Every artform evolves over time to adjust to what a group of fans are looking for. All types of entertainment are vastly different from how it was for previous generations. For some the new stuff sucks and for some its better than ever. Same with music, cartoons, etc. Then again I think Teen Titans Go is the best cartoon ever set in the DC Comics universe, which I know is blasphemous to most.

Well, today's audience has become very broad with the all the different forms of entertainment added to pro wrestling, that's a fact! Most people that never cared for old school pro wrestling have finally said they can at least "tolerate" watching it now, even go as far to say "enjoy it" for previously mentioned "comedy" in their act. Like TM has said, opinions will vary. Different strokes for different folks, it is what it is.
