I started playing in 1997 at the ripe old age of 14. My mom and I purchased the game for my dad for Father's Day. He got it all setup and ready to play, and I took one look at it and thought all of the aliens were stupid. I played one match to humor my dad. It was Star Warrior vs. Thantos. I played as Thantos and defeated Star Warrior and I was hooked! I fell in love with the game and especially the characters! We went to our first GalactiCon that year after having the game for about two weeks. We left the Con with all of the expansions up until that point. It was at that GalactiCon that I found out about bootleg characters, and that hooked me even more. As a kid I created hundreds of comic book characters and I still convert them into the COTG world to this day! This game has been a big part of my life ever since I rolled the dice for the first time.

I’ve been playing since the beginning. I have an original set with typos and all. I also have some of the original flyers. A fan for life.

This question might make me sound like a newbie, but how do you know if you got one of the first 500 sets or not? Since I started rolling Thanksgiving of 1986, I would assume I have one (but maybe I don't), but I see no indication of how someone would know. Of course I didn't keep the original envelope or anything helpful like that.

I used to create comic book characters for the old Superstar Pro Wrestling game in the 80s, but stopped when in a match, Daredevil pinned Galactus after a dropkick...lol.

I have one of the first 500 sets. I remember waiting for it in the mail. I was 11 when I ordered it and forget which wrestling magazine we cut the order form out of, could have been The Wrestler, Inside Wrestling or Pro Wrestling Illustrated. I also remember when I got it and my best friend Tommy and I made the first card, right out of the back of the book.

I believe Vanity had a 6(3) PIN rating in the original set that was changed to 7(4) in the 2nd printing. But I could have that backwards.

Of course I didn't keep the original envelope or anything helpful like that. I think the easiest way is to check your choice chart. If (G) and (H) send you to "Out of the Ring" instead of "Deathjump", you have an original set. Most of the changes involve (ch) moves. For example, Actagon and Killer Queen have (ch G) or (ch H) on their Level 2 Offenses. Vanity's PIN is 6(3) on an original set instead of 7 (4), which is the biggest change, stat wise, that I recall. I don't think most of us figured this out until the first GalactiCon. We were playing a tourney and I said "Choice H, I'll go out of the ring" and either Mike Delve or Rob Nadon said "that's a deathjump!" We compared charts and Tom said "Oh yeah, I made some adjustments after the first printings!" Minds blown!

I ordered the game in Oct 1987 as a birthday present for myself on my 17th birthday. I arrived Nov 1987...and I do not have one of first 500. I am sure I contemplated for about 6 months before making the purchase, and now I kick myself for doing waiting since I could have been close to getting one of the first 500. Someday I hope to go to a yard sale somewhere in my travels and stumble upon one!!!! (wouldn't that be awesome!)
