Thanks TDalton and Chad Olson (I can't tag you for some reason)! I do have the Vanity with 6 and out of the ring for the choices. That's pretty funny about how things were discovered. It's pretty cool the lore that exists with this game.

I started playing in 1997 at the ripe old age of 14. My mom and I purchased the game for my dad for Father's Day. He got it all setup and ready to play, and I took one look at it and thought all of the aliens were stupid. I played one match to humor my dad. It was Star Warrior vs. Thantos. I played as Thantos and defeated Star Warrior and I was hooked! I fell in love with the game and especially the characters! We went to our first GalactiCon that year after having the game for about two weeks. We left the Con with all of the expansions up until that point. It was at that GalactiCon that I found out about bootleg characters, and that hooked me even more. As a kid I created hundreds of comic book characters and I still convert them into the COTG world to this day! This game has been a big part of my life ever since I rolled the dice for the first time. The classic characters with Chuck Carter's art are timeless. Looking back on those original sets, its easy to see why CotG was able to take hold like it did. So many great characters in the early editions. 2087-2093, aside for some minor gripes here or there, are about as close to perfect as anything Tom has released. Those original sets were just as cool in 1997 as they were in 1987 when I first got the game and now 20 years later, are still just as cool as far as I'm concerned. Though I think Tom was able to recapture the magic somewhat during the CPC years 2105-2108. I'm looking forward to checking out the newer sets from 2125 onward.

I guess I can be considered an original on a technicality. A friend of mine was looking for a second wrestling game to play as we were avid Superstar Pro Wrestling Game players. He bought COTG off of the first ad in PWI and we tried it after it arrived in the mail. Neither of us cared for it as we preferred gaming with actual real life wrestlers, so it went on the shelf. In the early 2000's, another friend directed me to the website for LOW and I was interested but did not jump in until a while later when I saw the ROH edition pop up on their website. I've been a LOW addict ever since but still not into COTG for the same reason I wasn't in the beginning. Any chance you still have that original game copy? Would love to get one of the first 500 printed for my personal collection.

As I get older I find myself becoming more and more keen with the idea of collecting.
I'm far from a completionist when it comes to collections, but were I to ever stumble across an 'Original 500 2087 set' or the original Invasion I-III editions, I'd happily throw down the loot to acquire them.

I had one of the original 500 sets but I was 11 years old and ruined it by coloring the guys. Tom used to send me replacement cards quite often back in the beginning days.
COTG is the only RPG I've ever played. It was Chuck's art that hooked me. I was a fan of comics but had never seen art like that (and have not since). The day the game arrived is etched in my memory forever. Coming home from school to find the white envelope with blue ink sticking out from our mail basket. I remember thinking "Where is the game board?". Took me a few minutes to figure out what I was looking at, and once it clicked, my mind was blown forever. This was like a live action game for action figures, I thought. Greatest game I've ever played, and certainly fueled my creativity and imagination for a lifetime.
STRONG!

Tom was always super nice about sending replacements or helping out with questions. I remember that from being a kid myself. I used to send him tons of created wrestlers back in the day, and he would respond sometimes with encouraging comments. I remember the old postcards with the drawings of Chuck and Tom on them. Chuck’s art was definitely a big hook for me too!

I'm not too far from 1987. I think I got the first game set as a Christmas gift in 1990.

I love how Tom is not only okay with people making bootleg cards but encourages them and the creativity behind it. You won't find many game developers who are willing to do that!
