I know, sorta technically he held the title and I also know he didn’t need it at all but I would have liked to have seen Andre get a decent run with it. AGREED

Problem was there never was a time it would have worked. Pre 86, Andre was traveling too much to have it and after that, his body was breaking down too fast to do all the house shows necessary to be champion.

During the Hogan era, there were small windows where both Ted Dibiase and Mr. Perfect could have and should have been WWF champion. There was probably a point between WM 1 - 3 where Piper could have held it before dropping it back to Hogan. Right before WM 3, Orndorff almost beat Hogan in a cage match. Hogan would have won the belt back at WM 3 had Andre not been able to go. So my votes go to Dibiase, Perfect and Piper w Orndorff as honorable mention. I'm in agreement with you here. It's a shame DiBiase and Piper never held the WWF belt. Same goes for DiBiase with the NWA belt. It's amazing that Dibiase, despite being an amazing talent, never held either of the two biggest belst in American pro-wrestling. It's crazy to look back on now. Such a missed opportunity in both cases.

Antonino Rocca, Ken Patera & Roddy Piper
Muraco a close 4th as a personal favorite and then Dusty Rhodes in a quick switch w/Superstar Graham before the transition to Bob Backlund.

I think Lex Luger was a much bigger star under the WWE company, than with WCW/NWA. He should have stayed there instead of going back to WCW in 94 or 95. Eric Bisoff has said he didn't want Lex but did it as a favor for Sting and cut Lex's contact to nothing. I agree and I have Lex Luger as my other vote and my 3 picks are in no order... A.Lex Luger B.Paul Orndorff C.Ricky Steamboat

You could probably make an argument for Owen Hart. I never really saw him in that top spot because he didn't really have the personality, but some of his matches with Bret were pretty epic. Definitely Ricky Steamboat and Curt Henning!

Owen was unlikely going to ever win the title (unless it was a quick transition reign) but it would have been interesting. He was a classic wrestler born in the wrong era guy. He could have been awesome in the mid 2000s either in WWE or TNA.
