It has been a great weekend here in Las Vegas going to FSW which actually got over 86,000 view on Twitch (my guess is many of those were from China though due to the new FSW-OVW relationship.) 86,000 views is nevertheless 86,000 views.
On Friday night, I attended the annual FSW Hall of Fame and witnessed Godfather, Tyshaun Prince, and Bryce Harrison getting inducted.
The ceremony took place downtown at the E Sports Arena which is located on the third floor of the Neonopolis on Fremont Street. Unfortunately there were more wrestlers than fans in attendance (but those who showed up were vocal as hell and serenaded Mazzerati with her usual "ho" chants) which really surprised me as FSW has drawn some great crowds to their recent casino shows. PJ Black attended the ceremony and sat in the front row, I only got to talk to him very briefly, but he is awesome. I was originally hoping to finally sign Godfather to the game, but he had a booking in Albany and instead gave a videotaped induction speech.
After the show I was on Fremont Street but felt like I was at Mos Eisley because at Fremont Street you will truly never find "a more wretched hive of scum and villainy."
I went bar hopping on Fremont Street. I went to:
The Nerd
Atomic Liquors (the very first ever Las Vegas bar, it got renamed back in the 1950s when the government was doing nuclear bomb test explosions in the desert, how cool would it have been to go out on a balcony with a drink in your hand and watch a nuclear bomb go off? - that stuff actually happened here in Las Vegas.)
Evel Pie. This is a pizza place owned by the son of the late great Evel Knieval. I ate a slice of Cheesy Rider and a slice of The Goblin. Pizza was OK but Pizza Rock IMO is still the best place for pizza downtown.
Hogs and Heffers. This place is just insane and the symbol of debauchery as it is also a Raiders bar which will only get even crazier when the Raiders are actually here in two years.
On Saturday night I went to FSW's 9th Anniversary at Sam's Town. I got to the venue and a new guy doing security asked me for my ticket. I did not have a ticket but instead just sent the promoter who is a friend of mine the cash in advance on PayPal. They were not going to let me in at first, but then another security guard spoke up for me and I got into the venue (I did pay full price for my front row ticket.) The new ring announcer FSW uses truly kicks ass, he said "Welcome to the world famous Sam's Town Arena!" I do not think the venue is world famous, but it is the best place to watch Indy wrestling. Just ask aceldamas or whlineup. There is a reason ROH does 2 PPVs a year there and a reason why Impact is doing s PPV there this summer and a reason why House of Hardcore is also running there this Summer.
The show started off with the 2nd Annual Nick Bockwinkel Battle Royal. A former student of mine was in this battle royal and I enjoyed getting to see him get an elimination before he was also unfortunately thrown over the top rope.
My favorite matches last night were:
Sami Calllihan vs Hammerstone
Hammerstone retained but I would not be surprised if Sami Callihan does win the title in the future (he is not local, but Matt Hardy also had a run as FSW Champion.) During the match, Callihan did his victory lap that I wrote on his card as a mechanic but instead of running around the ring as usual he instead ran down from the top of the bleachers. Hammerstone is now 2-0 against Callihan at FSW, lots of "bullsh*t" chants after the match.
Teddy Hart vs PJ Black vs Willie Mack
Teddy is apparently going to be a regular here in Las Vegas at FSW as he is looking to move here. After the match, PJ Black said he wants to return to FSW for the next casino show so he can get his first ever one on one match versus Teddy Hart.
Whirlwind Gentlemen vs OWE. I was really impressed with OWE. They are a new China based fed with CIMA as their trainer and CIMA wrestled last night at Sam's Town and they have a partnership with FSW (once again- over 86,000 views this weekend)! Their ring announcer got the crowd fired up and the match kicked ass. Looking forward to more OWE matches at FSW and hopefully with CIMA!
Cody Hanccck vs No Limits Champion Nick Bugatti.
This was Cody's final match and he truly left it all in the ring.
Chris Bey vs Graves vs Owen Travers
Bey is a 19-20 year old currently kicking some serious ass, last year he won PCW's Young Guns Tournament which is the West Coast version of the Young Lions Cup. One of my favorite wrestlers to talk to at FSW, Bey is just so awesome and he has a very bright future. You will know who he is soon.
after the show my friend Alex who works at PWG drove me home, my only regret is I did not get a chance to finally meet Barbi Hayden and get her to autograph my copy of her card.
awesome FSW anniverary weekend!
