I believe the promotion of the new game editions leaves a lot to be desired. I have been playing COTG since 89 and I am finding less enthused year after year. I enjoy most of the game editions but the excitement that I used to feel when a new edition was getting ready to be release is no more. With the advent of social media you would expect the story lines to be built. I know federation promoters chose not to receive spoilers or sneak previews, but is that the best choice for the health of the game? Maybe I am the only one who feels this way, but the magic of receiving the new game edition or even the game itself is slipping away. No more is building a story line of the next chapter that is coming, now I wait to see what the game edition is once it's released and decide if it's worth the investment. Where is the game promotion outside of this community? I enjoyed the additional story arks within the COTG universe but outside of the GWF (CPC/aCe), this gave me hope that if Tom ever decided to hang up the boots that there would be someone else to pick up the mantle. But that ended for reasons unknown probably because of the time involved. If Tom has lost interest which I believe was the case several years back, who picks up the where he leaves off? Please promote the game, build story arcs, retell the stories of past wrestlers as it was in old Promoter Primes. Reinvigorate and old generation of promoters and energize the newest generation of promoters.

One thing I agree with is that outside of the boards, it’s hard to get any info for our game. FG is also quite a niche game, you have to be into wrestling and tabletop games for the most part. Not sure how much those 2 paths cross. I think online was an attempt at getting a more connected audience. Maybe more ads in mags or online? As far as story goes, it sounds like the next handbook is almost as big as the Bible. And after meeting Tom last year at GCon, he seems like he’s quite excited. He had a gleem in his eyes talking about it & a kiddish smile. I hope he lives to be 120 yrs old. For someone who collected sports cards in my youth, I love the surprise of new characters. As far as availability, never has it been better to be a cotg fan. There is so much content available and Promoter Prime gives us some additions to our feds throughout the year to break up that one year wait. Even though we only have the message board, we should be glad we do. Of any game I’ve ever gotten into, I’ve never seen anything like this one. The people on here are great and very helpful. I wish this was around when I started.

It's a good question on the promoting. It is a bit odd to have something new coming out and not promoting it too much though obviously most promoters will still buy it regardless, it is a little strange for new promoters who might be interested in the game. I can see both sides though I think Tom is having more fun writing than ever and I know that there is a plan in place if Tom ever retires (but I think that's at least 30 years away)

I think it’s a time thing. As we all get older life can get in the way. I understand Tom has help with Todd and others but with everything going on, COTG, Indies, LOW, etc. time to market said projects may fall by the wayside. They have jobs and families, other interest, etc., I’m sure it’s a tremendous task to get everything done. Now I did love the hype train flyers. Those things were amazing, I guess they could still do those, but we’d probably have to sacrifice something else to get those.

Call me old fashioned, but I miss the days of the old GWF Promoter and the new edition previews. This thread made me pull out all my old Promoters and start leafing through them. This was from Promoter #3.

Loved the ads. Wasn’t aware of GWF Promoter when it was active.

I miss them too. Nothing like getting them in the mail to brighten up your week, when you were in school back in the day.

Oh yeah, those fliers, great memories. I remember, my mom used to write the date we sent out my order in the mail. Each day, counted the clock til the end of school (actually, I did that everyday, lol), rushed off the bus, and went straight for the mailbox. Used the flier to pre-plan and hype my stories. Classic. Still have a stack of those old fliers in a folder somewhere...

The game fliers were second only to the game itself in terms of excitement and awesomeness. I would put that thing on my nightstand and read it every night, dreaming up guesses and match ideas.
Would love to see them return.
