February 3, 2019 – Card #18 – Renfew Community Arena, Renfew, Ontario
Shawn Daivari outlasted Blue Meanie. Meanie is very popular with the fans who are out of their seats for an early Meanie dance. Meanie maintains the advantage largely due to his size but struggles to get something going offensively other than slams and punches. Daivari comes back and works the arm and earns heat with a choke. Daivari rebounds Meanie into an impressive dropkick and then lands knees to the body for a two count. The go to the floor and Meanie shoves Dr. Mike Lano into his opponent. DDT connects in the ring and they go back to the floor. Meanie eats the ringside table. Daivari grinds away with a chinlock and then hits back to back standing dropkicks and a deathjump dropkick. The go back outside and this time Daivari goes into the table face first. Back in the ring, Meanie comes off the top with a forearm to the head. He goes back up but Daivari kicks his legs out sending him crashing to the mat. Daivari with knee drives to the body followed by WMD for a big near fall. The fans spur Meanie to a comeback including back to back neckbreakers and a DDT. Both men are missing moves. Meanie connect with back to back reverse atomic drops and then hits back to back neckbreakers for a two count. Meanie comes off the top with a crossbody block deathjump but Daivari kicks out at the last second. Outside, Daivari turns things around and sends Meanie into the post busting him open. Daivari squeezes out the blood with a chinlock. Meanie is back with another neckbreaker. Daivari rebounds Meanie into a dropkick and connects with a deathjump elbow smash. Daivari dominates working the arm and a grinding chinlock. Knee drives weaken Meanie. Meanie looks like he may come back but Daivari takes him to mat with a blatant choke that enrages the fans. Daivari mounts the corner for a deathjump cross body block for the pin.
Larry Hennig picked up a controversial win over Wild Bill White. White shows he is game and battles Hennig blow for blow even getting the advantage at times. White counters a backdrop with a piledriver before following up with a stomp to the head and shoulder breaker for a near fall. White goes for the eyes by Hennig blocks and nails a double forearm hammer that knocks sufficient wind out his opponent to score the pin. White complains that his shoulder was up at the count of three but the referee will not hear it despite similar thoughts by many at ringside.
Masked Superstar made short work of Sam Houston. Morgan Dollar will be making the three count and has strict instructions for both men. The early grinding pace favours Superstar as he works Houston on the mat. Forearm smashes lead to a sleeper and Houston is finished quickly.
Johnny Valentine destroyed “Cowboy” Scott Casey. Casey makes a tactical mistake by engaging in brawling punches and Valentine just smiles and goes to work. Casey gets overwhelmed and tossed to the floor. He regains the ring and Valentine is ready with a sleeper and then transitions to a atomic skullcrusher for the win (Snake Eyes!).
Diamond Dallas Page over Lenny Lane by disqualification. Page attempts to work the upper body but Lane uses his agility to get out of early trouble and take control. Moonsault connects and gets a near fall. Lane comes off the top with a deathjump smash. Page powers out of a grinding chinlock and connects with a discuss clothesline that nearly ends it. Page takes over and works the neck with a neckbreaker and another discuss clothesline. After a brief brawl on the floor the action returns to the ring. Lane regains control with his speed and hits three wheelbarrow facebusters stunning the fans. Lane steps up the attack with kicks and a running bulldog. Another wheelbarrow facebuster forces Page outside. Lane rolls to the floor grabs a chair and smashes it across Page’s back. The referee calls for the disqualification. Lane tosses Page into the ring and plants him with a memory lane before leaving the ring to great heat.
Nikolai Volkoff bested Terry Gordy by disqualification. Volkoff sings and the fans are all over him. Gordy is slightly quicker the Volkoff and gets the upper hand with a back suplex that shakes the ring. Gordy then plants Volkoff with a piledriver for a two and half count. A Bamm Bamm Slam follows but Vokolff just gets his shoulder up. Gordy comes off the top with a forearm to the skull and then traps Volkoff in an STF. Gordy goes back to the top but Volkoff knocks the ropes sending Gordy to the mat in a heap. Volkoff then shows off by going to the top himself but Gordy is able to recover and slam him to the mat. Gordy takes over with double knee drops and dominates the next few minutes including five lariats. Volkoff finally crumbles to the mat and Gordy wraps him up in an STF. Volkoff gets tossed into the corner but blocks a charge with double knees. Gordy recovers quickly and nails double knees after double knees after double knees after double knees after double knees. Volkoff misses a running lariat attempt and Gordy makes him pay with a back suplex. Gordy controls but misses a deathjump bomb. They are both missing moves. Volkoff misses wildly with a running lariat but his running stomp a few moves later connects. Volkoff with double thrust and a pair of throat drops on the ropes. Volkoff covers for two. Gordy is in trouble but manages to reverse a whip to the corner but Volkoff blocks the charge with double knees. Big boot to the face misses and Gordy connects with a lariat that spills Volkoff outside. Gordy comes outside as well and Volkoff posts Gordy busting him open. Backbreaker drop for a two and half count. The go to the floor again and this time Gordy grabs Volkoff and slams him through the ringside table. The referee calls for the bell and he have back to back disqualification finishes.
Marty Jannetty beat Petey Williams. Morgan Dollar calls the action. Jannetty and Williams trade moves at a quick pace. Jannetty dives onto Williams at ringside and the fans are on their feet. Both men are back inside and Williams stumbles into a cross body block from Jannetty but rolls through for a near fall. Williams controls including rolling suplexes that rock the fans. Back to back Canadian Leg Sweeps force Jannetty to take a breather. Williams comes out for a brawl at ringside. Jannetty slams Williams into what is left of the ringside table. Rocker dropper connects for a near fall. Jannetty with a suplex and drockick. Jannetty back to the top for another cross body block. 1, 2, Williams kicks out. Rocker Dropper hits but does not get the win and Jannetty tosses Williams outside. Williams tosses a chunk of the table at Jannetty and we go back to the ring. Williams with a Sharpshooter and a rope straddle dropkick. Williams with a deathjump smash. Another deathjump smash and Jannetty is in trouble. Canadian Destroyer and the fans jump out of their seat as Jannetty kicked out of the cover. Another deathjump smash. To the floor and Jannetty backdrops Williams to the concrete. Deathjump smash and superkick. Jannetty with a DDT and superkick. Cover for the three count.
Ivan Koloff pinned Blackjack Mulligan. Mulligan gains the advantage after Morgan Dollar calls for the bell grinding the upper body with an arm bar. Kolkoff gets the action outside and Mulligan eats the new ringside table. Falling face slam forces Mulligan to the floor and when he regains the ring Koloff controls with a double stomp and another falling face slam. Back outside for a crazy brawl into the fans and back. Back into the ring and Kolkoff connects with a Russian Sickle that stuns Mulligan just long enough for the three count. (Snake Eyes!).
The Valiant Brothers & Lou Albano beat Armstrongs & Brutus Beefcake. “The Bullet” dominates against Lou Albano early and when Brutus Beefcake tags in, Albano wants no part of him. Johnny Valiant attempts to get something going but is frustrated by Beefcake who connects with a flying knee smash. Brad Armstrong battles Jimmy Valiant and Valiant is able to drag Armstrong outside and whip him hard into the ring steps. “Luscious” Johnny tosses Armstrong back to the floor but Armstrong reverses a whip and sends Valiant into the ring steps. Beefcake then brawls with Valiant on the floor. Jimmy Valant is in and drops Beefcake with a foreign object busting him open. Beefcake ducks a running lariat and tags in Bob Armstrong. Valiant tags in Johnny Valiant who stops Armstrong with an arm poke. The Armstrongs tag and Brad Armstrong nails a perfect dropkick for a two count. Two handed bulldog gets another near fall. Bob Armstrong takes the match back to the floor and cracks Johnny Valiant across the back with a chair. Inside, Jimmy Valiant gets the tag and takes over against “The Bullet’ with stomps and a series of atomic drops. More brawling at ringside goes the way of Armstrong. Brad Armstrong tags in with a Russian Leg Sweep on Jimmy Valiant for a big near fall. Two handed bulldog connects for 2 ¾. Beefcake tags back in and mounts the corner but Valiant superplexes him to the mat. Now Albano wants at Beefcake but Beefcake catches him on the buckles and slams him to the mat. Flying knee smash connects but Albano reverses a whip into the corner and lands a kick before tagging out. Johnny Valiant is all over Beefcake leading to a Double Clothesline from the Valiant Brothers for a two count. Jimmy Valiant connects with a deathjump smash and then the action goes back to the floor. Beefcake is nearly counted out after Valiant chokes him out with a cord. Albano tags in to great heat with a Sicilian Slam but Beefcake kicks out of the cover. Albano attacks with chokes and a front face lock. The Valiant Brothers execute a double buckle whip on Beefcake and then connect with a SUPER ELBOW for the three count.
Commonwealth Champion Buddy Rogers dominated Jerry Lynn. Morgan Dollar is in charge of the main event and there is a good pace to the early action. Rogers seems thrown off by Lynn’s style and tactics but catches him with dropkicks and then plants him a piledriver to slow things down. Lynn takes a breather and crawls back into the ring but Rogers is ready and traps Lynn in a Figure Four Grapevine to retain the title in quick fashion.
News and Views: Nikolai Volkoff and Terry Gordy went to war tonight and the fans cannot wait until the next time the two collide . . . Impressive victory for Masked Superstar has he builds momentum heading into his showdown with Canadian Heavyweight Champion Lou Thesz . . . Larry Hennig was successful in his singles debut but the three count raised some eyebrows from the fans seated closest to the action . . Things are clearly not resolved between the sides after tonight’s six man battle between the Armstrongs and Brutus Beefcake against Lou Albano and The Valiant Brothers. . . Everyone who found their seats early were treated to a surprisingly intense opener . . . Johnny Valentine has arrived in Maple Leaf Wrestling and based on his performance tonight, he may soon be in title contention . . . In addition to be a member of a contending tag team, Ivan Koloff is making his way up the singles rankings as well with a very impressive win over Blackjack Mulligan tonight . . .
Up next, we head just west of Toronto for a night of action from the Georgetown Arena featuring the Canadian Title being defendant plus more intense action including the following bouts:
• Diamond Dallas Page was left laying in the middle of the ring after his match against Lenny Lane tonight and will be looking for payback when he battles Lane in a rematch next week.
• In an interesting contest with some family history, Brutus Beefcake meets Johnny Valentine one on one in the ring
• Pepperland Rockers will be back in tag team action after spending some time in singles competition as they step into the ring against another team that has not been in action for some time, Sam Houston & “Cowboy” Scott Casey
• In a preview of the upcoming Canadian Open Tag Team Title Match, current champions Original Midnight Express will battle their challengers Ivan Koloff & Nikolai Volkoff in a pair of singles matches
• The Armstrongs will be back at it again against Jimmy & Johnny Valiant as both teams are looking to prove they are the next contenders for the Canadian Open Tag Team Titles
• Blackjack Mulligan and Terry Gordy are knotted at one victory each in their previous encounters and both men are promised to lay it all on the line as they clash for a third time will pride and contender position on the line
• Jerry Lynn suffered a crushing defeat tonight and will need to regroup quickly as he will be meeting the Minnesota powerhouse Larry Hennig in singles action
