Former British wrestler Les Thornton passed away at 84
Former NWA and World Junior Heavyweight champion Les Thornton has passed away. He passed on February 1 at the age of 84.
A Facebook announcement later stated: “It is with great sadness we share that Les Thornton peacefully took his leave on February 1, 2019 at 11:15 am, with his devoted wife, Terry at his side. In honor of Les’ wishes there will be no funeral service. Instead, those wishing to pay respects are invited to make a donation to the Calgary Humane Society.”
The British wrestling star was known for his work across the globe, including Stampede Wrestling, the National Wrestling Alliance, Texas, Georgia, and Los Angeles. He held the NWA Junior Heavyweight Championship five separate times. He later joined the WWF after the purchase of Georgia Championship Wrestling. There he became an undercard talent and also coordinated international shows for the promotion in the Middle East.
Former WWWF Champion Pedro Morales has passed away at 76 after battling health issues for several years, including Parkinson’s disease. The news broke via Hugo Savinovich.
In addition to being a former WWF World Heavyweight Champion, he is also a former Tag Team and Intercontinental Champion which would make him the first Triple Crown winner in company history.
Morales won championships in several promotions but most fans would probably remember his time in the WWWF/WWF as a wrestler and later as a color commentator on the Spanish-language version of WWF Superstars.
Morales is a WWE Hall Of Famer and was voted into the Wrestling Observer Hall Of Fame in 2017.
