Read on social media (so don't always know if it is true) ? In 1971 Ray Stevens Bombs Away broke Dr X (Dick Beyer) leg and the move got banned . That is how he got the name Crippler ? Anyone using the move banned in their fed ?

In the AWA, where this match took place, top rope moves were banned for most of the fed's existence. That move, in particular, was used a lot when Bockwinkel and Stevens would defend their AWA tag titles. There would be a big distraction, from Bock or Heenan, and Stevens would hit the move behind the referee's back, leading to the pinfall.

The DQ on the original Deathjump chart didn't bother me, because I grew up watching this rule enforced in the AWA. I'm not sure where TOM would have seen it, as I don't think it was used in Big Time Wrestling/Detroit, the NWF, or anything else he may have seen.
