This was labeled the Thunder Queen Battle...a best of five falls 8 woman inter-promotional tag match. A battle of the two top ladies promotions of the era as the stars of All Japan Women's Wrestling took on the stalwarts of Japanese Women's Pro Wrestling. This was a unique format as the first 20 minute block was dedicated to rotating five minute 'individual' match ups...with the remainder of the time floated into a 4 on 4 tag with the fifth winning fall clinching a team victory. This is a great way to tell multiple in ring stories in one dynamic event and this stands as a classic match in Joshi history.

* Those curious about a CotG/LOW equivalent that used this type of arc in a more expansive 'seasonal' format (with use of a financial and achievement award system) may want to see my old GPWN Team Challenge Series write ups. Whether the payoff on this theme is booked to be immediate (ie. resolved in one match) or longer term...from a creative standpoint the return from the time invested in playing this out can be very substantial.

This was from AJW for the WWWA Title at an event labeled WrestleMarinpiad II. Hall of Famer vs Hall of Famer...Champion Bull Nakano vs Challenger Aja Kong. I've seen just about every style from every era and I have to rate this as the best worked 'brutal cage match' I've ever seen. The format was no referee, no DQ, no pinfalls or submissions...anything goes with seconds at ringside allowed to throw all sorts of weapons into the cage. The first woman to escape over the top wins. What's remarkable is not only do these women work at a frenetic pace in a way that 'looks' ultra stiff (putting most men to shame) but they combine it with high end offensive moves that can only be delivered by great ring technicians. These 'big women' show great athleticism and work the garbage style spots in ways that makes sense and come off as all too real. Watch for the Highlight Reel finish!
