This was from AJW. All Pacific Champion and super heel Devil Masami defends against ultra face Chigusa Nagayo. CN was one half of the legendary Crush Girls (with Lioness Asuka) a team that was a huge sensation with the young female target audience and even gained commercial success as a music act. This match took place at the peak of their popularity. Facts are facts and looking back this period teaches that when booked effectively women's wrestling CAN draw very serious money and even garner mainstream crossover popularity. Note the demographics of the audience...it was pre-teen & teenage girls coming out in droves. A Joshi Match of the Decade Candidate.

This was from AJW and represents a 'decision match' for second place in the annual Grand Prix. Under the GP format the size, duration and system (round robin, single elimination, mixed combo) would change from year to year but the output was always outstanding. The charismatic Kyoko Inoue was a top star and frequent champion throughout the mid to late 90's. Mariko Yoshida was an innovator of new moves and brought together a nice mix of a lucha style aerial assault and crisp mat work. In later years she excelled behind the scenes as a trainer to future stars in Aja Kong's ARSION promotion. A good look at both in a solid match.

This was from AJW. Super face Lioness Asuka was best known as one half of the famous Crush Girls with Chigusa Nagayo. Jaguar Yokota was one of the great lady wrestlers of the early to mid 80's. At the time the promotion had a rule where women must 'retire' upon reaching age 26. The positive was that fresh faces were constantly cycled into the mix and main event positions were never static for too many years. This type of 'cut throat' creative environment was one of the key drivers behind the high level of work rate that was produced in AJW matches...these women were always fighting for their spots with not much room for error. On the flip side, the loss of JY in her prime was an unfortunate example of the trade off involved in this type of booking strategy. A Joshi Classic with insane crowd energy driven by a mostly young female audience.
