ROH has announced a Summer Supercard for SummerSlam weekend in Toronto.
It was announced today that Summer Supercard will take place at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto on Friday, August 9. The show will include wrestlers from ROH, NJPW, CMLL, and the NWA.
NJPW's G1 Climax will still be going on when Summer Supercard takes place, so Summer Supercard won't feature wrestlers in the tournament.
Summer Supercard will air live on HonorClub. ROH hyped that it will "feature the greatest wrestlers from the US, Japan, and Mexico competing for championships and in dream matches."
Tickets for Summer Supercard will go on sale to HonorClub members at 10 a.m. Eastern time on Wednesday, May 22. They will then go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Eastern on Friday, May 24.
WWE SummerSlam will be held at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto on Sunday, August 11. The Scotiabank Arena will also host NXT TakeOver: Toronto on Saturday, August 10.
I guess piggybacking off of SummerSlam is a novel idea, but with this show taking place at the ass end of the G1, they're not going to have access to any of New Japan's top guys, or even some of their mid level guys. Given that the most recent show in Torondo didn't draw a sell out and this is a larger venue, I don't see this drawing super well given that there's an NXT Takeover the next night that appeals to basically the exact same audience as this show.
