It seems like this was the AWA debut for Shawn Michaels ( Chad Olson, Cory Olson, is that correct?) who had recently been named the Central States Rookie of the Year. Michaels wrestled Buddhakan and afterward said he was looking for a tag team partner. At the end of the show, another AWA newcomer Marty Jannetty said he would be forming a tag team with Michaels so this was a historic show for one of my favorite tag teams of the 1980s. Jannetty said they were going to call themselves the US Express, I did not know that was the originally planned tag name (did they ever actually use it?) for Michaels and Jannetty and it surprised me too since that name had recently been used by Barry Windham and Mike Rotundo (although I know there were future versions of the US Express.) Zeke, according to this Website, Shawn's first matches in the AWA were in late February/early March. Even in his few early singles bouts, they had him work with the Rockers' eventually enemies of Buddy Rose and Doug Somers. The first listed result of the Rockers teaming up for the Minneapolis TV show has them beating Rose and Somers also. I can't find a Showboat taping from March 4 or earlier but the Website could definitely be incomplete so I am sure this was his first appearance on the ESPN show. Thanks for sharing, Zeke! Hope you feel better!

I recently watched a Somers vs. Michaels match from Vegas, before Micheals adopted the Rockers gimmick. Marty Jannetty came to the AWA with that look, as he used it in Central States. I do think the Buddha Khan match was Micheals' first AWA match.
