Next thing you're going to tell me Barry Darsow was never a licensed repo man. Wait...he wasn't a licensed repo man?!?! No, Barry Darsow was a golfer. Repo Man, the WWF wrestler, was a licensed repo man. They’re not the same guy, see, because one of them wears a mask.

Do we have any servicemen among us? Usually faking something like this is looked on as disgraceful to people who really served. He was lying about it in real life. Not in the ring. What may not be “news” or offensive to some of us, is to others.

What may not be “news” or offensive to some of us, is to others. I have never seen Robert "Bob" Remus interviewed in real life. He always does public appearances and interviews as Sgt Slaughter. If the man walks into an interview wearing his gimmick hat and camo and is introduced as Sgt Slaughter, it's safe to assume that it's the character talking. This sort of thing was covered in some degree during the Hulk Hogan versus Gawker trial where it was argued successfully that Hulk and Terry Bollea are, in essence, two different entities . Old school wrestlers did not break character in public and habits die hard. The Slaughter story is old news anyway (first reported in 1985) and it's too bad that outrage culture has brought it back. I imagine that the Sgt Slaughter character did more for recruitment and moral than any other character. The Marines couldn't buy a better advertisement than a real life GI Joe.

I am an honorably discharged veteran. This news does not bother me at all. Sgt. Slaughter is/was just playing a character. Nikita Koloff is not Russian, Jim Cornette was not country club rich kid, etc. This is a non-story. What is really sad is someone thought this silliness was worth going through the effort of submitting a FOIA request.

Playing a character and vaguely claiming to have served is one thing. If he does interviews and such where he tries giving specifics of real service that he never did that is something he needs to quit. It blurs the line too much and there are evil people out there using stolen valor for personal gain. It tarnishes the reality of men and women that really serve. So I am fine with him playing a fake vet not playing a real one.

So I am fine with him playing a fake vet not playing a real one. I am fine with him playing the character but if he actually comes out and states that he served in my beloved Corps and didn't- that is another issue completely! A few months ago I saw someone wearing a "hit me" jacket (ppl in the Corps knows what it is) with insignia from 2/1 and he had a combat unit citation, several southwest Asia campaign medals, a silver star, and ranks of gunnery sergeant and a captain. Asked him about when he was in and which unit...he supposedly was in the same unit, same platoon that I was in, and the same time...i was like "weird"...and asked what he got the silver star from- he replied that he recieved it for always being excellent in his duties...(I was getting upset now)...asked what rank he actually was and he said was a gunnery captain...wtf? I flipped out and told him to take that sh*t off..he had no right to wear any of as I have had friends/fellow marines die for those colors...my wife kept telling me to calm down as I followed him back to his car telling him that I would call the cops/bust his a$$ if he didnt take it off... So, if it's like that- no..I am not kewl with it but if character- that's fine

He wasn’t playing a character on Sam Roberts show. That’s the point that is being missed. Regardless of Doink not being a real clown or Kamala not being a Ugandan Savage.
