I'm working on a new project (think game mats, tally sheets, etc.) and I have a question for my fellow promoters (both COTG and Legends).
When you finish rolling out a match and go to record the results, what do you write down/type in?
For example, I usually write:
Winner/Loser How? (Pin, Submission, DQ, CO) Finishing Move - whatever move won the match Star rating Notes - anything particularly interesting happen. Final fatigue - Sometimes, I don't do this all the time.
What do you write down? How much to you keep track of? Do you write out every move or just a few notes?
The more detailed you can be the better this project will turn out.
Thanks!

Awesome topic. I wish I had more to add than that though lol, but what you mentioned is pretty much exactly what I keep too.
For a game mat idea, perhaps something such as "stakes", a column in my home brew booking system which runs fairly long so I always fill that out to keep tabs, ie: Tag4, Tag2, TV3 for the ranking spot the match is contested for. #1 contender, title match, feud breaker, ect..

Hi Toasterboy! So for me, after each match I write down (in my notebook) the participants in the match who defeated who in said match (any stipulations in the match) and with what move, finisher, or count out ect. I only ever did star rating in my first year with COTG after a time I stopped recording such results. Moreover, I do a small write up on the events of the match (if it was a see-saw match-up or a total squash). All of this is in bullit form and records super easy. RANDOM EXAMPLE: (Aethran Saw Shark Match) Wolf w/ Amazonia (d) Mayhem via "Savage Face Claw" Mayhem INJ. 10 Fight Cards! -" The main event at the old Aethran Battle Hanger saw Wolf challege his vile nemesis Mayhem (in Mayhem's signature match the Aethran Saw Shark Bout!). The match was dominated by Mayhem until Amazonia swam out and distracted Mayhem as Amazonia emerged from the water! This Gave a bloody Wolf the right amount of time to sink in his Savage Face Claw as the Aethran Saw Sharks were nipping at Mayhem's boots!" Hope that helps

When I make my notes after a match I write -name- def. -name-
by D.Q, C.O. if needed
I've been keeping my results short but I'll make a note of a great match, add how it ended (finisher, etc.), the # of fatigue coins if high for each wrestler.
When I did a little more detail I'd include a little of how the match went, big moves, near falls, saves, etc.

Great question. Intrigued to see what the info results in.
Since I use online pretty much exclusively these days, I use that format but much like you: Winer/Loser Finish Time Star Rating
From there my match notes typically begin with a little background - is the wrestler on a winning streak? Losing streak? Are they feuding with anyone? Each other? That sort of thing.
Next, I'll describe the opening moves to set the tone of the match. Then I'll maybe highlight a few spots of interest, especially if things get heated, spill outside, any controversy.
Finally, I'll describe the finish and immediate aftermath.
On occasion, I will note fatigue tokens if they're remarkable. Otherwise, that's a fact that slips into the ether. Though I will always make a note of blood if it is spilled.
I do my best to tell a story with my match notes. It's not just about what happened but how and why. Was this a brawl? A technical masterpiece? Are these two just tough competitors or heated rivals? Are there title implications? It really is all about the narrative for me and not just numbers.
Here's a recent example:
- Torture Chamber - Minister of War vs. Evolution for the Primus Carnage Title Evolution defeated Minister of War with a catching chokeslam at 28:34 Match Rating: 4.75 Match Notes: War was waged in the torture chamber tonight.
Evolution asked for it and he gave everything he had.
The Minister of War gave as good as he got and enjoyed every second of it.
Early on they jockeyed for position and it was anybody's match, but Evolution exploded with offense and hit three DECAPITATORs to score big.
The titanium came into play multiple times and Vengeance was wearing the crimson mask in no time. Evolution pressed the advantage and scored again with the DECAPITATOR.
But the match continued in back and forth style and the audience was at fever pitch when Vengeance took over again and began picking Evolution apart. The young P3 was a bloody mess in no time and Vengeance relished his work.
But Evolution would not stay down. AETHRAN MASSACRE nearly broke Evolution down, but the youngster continued!
Vengeance was losing steam, though, and was desperate to put Evolution down... Evolution caught him with a chokeslam during an attempted dive and Vengeance could not continue!
We have a new Primus Carnage Champion! It was a bloodbath, but Evolution proved something here tonight! Incredible.
[Evolution - 8 tokens, MoW - 7 tokens & out 5 weeks!]
Evolution won the Primus Carnage Title

I usually write something like “THANTOS made STAR WARRIOR submit with the master lock.” So I make a note of who fought in caps, what move was used and I usually comment on what the match of the night was.

throwingtoasters I use google docs. I record who won & lost, plus time of match. Any notes I put at the end of the card. I also keep track of injuries in the document. P.S. I replied to your message.

Time - how long the match lasted probably 0min17 . Honestly
Who won and how
If a Feud , I include their feud score who is winning it ?
If someone did interference I include that or if the referee got hurt

Winner/Loser-of course. Not much reason not to do this. How? (Pin, Submission, DQ, CO)-well in that I write the finish, yes. Finishing Move - whatever move won the match-yes. Most important part to me. Star rating-I don't rate the matches. Notes - anything particularly interesting happen.-I try to do so. Sometimes when it's a while between rolling the matches and trying to write them up this gets skipped. Final fatigue - Sometimes, I don't do this all the time.-Once in a while. Usually when it's either sky high or its important to a match (part of the stipulation)

Here is what I do for both writing up a match as it happens AND what I write after the match is over:
For this example, let's say Matador is Heavyweight Champion. He is facing Encubus in a Title Bout (regular match). This is the raw data I keep track of during a match and how it is written, explained in a bit --
Encubus (S)-GD Matador PIN 2, rolled 5 Matador (S)-BW Encubus PIN 5, rolled 6 Matador (S)-BW Encubus PIN 6, rolled 3!
-- Attempted pins/submissions: Matador=2, Encubus=1 Rolled for DQ: Matador=1, Encubus=2
PLEASE NOTE: The "(S)" in the raw data is from the "Superstar Pro Wrestling game". That game's Finishers were called "Specialties" and were designated as "(S)" on the Offensive section. This is why I use the (S) and Finisher abbrieviation in the raw data!
So starting with the game data: Encubus rolled his Finisher (Gamemaster DDT). Matador's PIN Rating was "2" since Encubus' Finisher had a "0" rating. Matador rolled a "5" for the pin attempt. Added ONE to Encubus' "Attempted pins/submissions" (this is to make sure I am keeping track of actual pins/submissions INSTEAD of added Fatigue Tokens from an "Add 1" move).
Next, Matador hit his Finisher. Encubus' PIN Rating was "5" (adjusted for the "+3" on Matador's Finisher). Encubus rolled a "6" for the pin attempt. Added one to Matador's Attempted pins/submissions. Etc.
DQ rolls are kept track of during the match as well.
So once the match was over, I write up a little description how the match went in a short sentence. Then I post the official results (whoever won is listed by name, or team, first; then how they won; then who they beat if it's in a tag match (so I know who beat whom); and the time of the match using my own timing system (which I am saving for if and when there's a contest for coming up with an OFFICIAL timing system, LOL). If it was a title bout, then I write if there is a new champ or if the champ retained. If an injury occurred at the end of the match due to the Feud Table or injury from a wrestler's card, then I write who was injured and for how long. I also state if a suspension is needed to be rolled (so I can keep track if I need to roll on the Commish's card or not).
So for this example, the write-up for this match might look like this:
MATCH #9: Heavyweight Champion Matador of M83 VS Encubus - TITLE BOUT Encubus was not prepared well as Matador got the victory in this one. Matador won with his Finisher - BULLWHIP in a time of 7:28, thus Matador retained the Heavyweight Belt! -- Attempted pins/submissions: Matador=2, Encubus=1 Rolled for DQ: Matador=1, Encubus=2
That's about it! It sounds complicated, but it really isn't!
