This is just a thought exercise, and a chance to see who everyone would list as a top priority should the unthinkable happen.
Suppose Vince McMahon agreed that Filsinger Games could produce a trial set of eight cards for the game, just to see how it sold to the larger WWE Universe. Maybe it would take off, maybe it wouldn't, but let's assume this is a one-time-only opportunity. Vince says we can select two talents from each of the four Brands: Smackdown, Raw, NXT, and NXT UK. Who would you hope to see in the set?
Me, I'm not really into the top-tier guys. I'd be using these folks with the Indies sets, not the LOW sets, so I wouldn't want the existing cards I am using to get overshadowed. Besides, we already have so many major-league players, I'd like to see some of the lower to mid ranks filled out.
Here are my picks, and why:
RAW
1.) Alexa Bliss. She is probably my favorite female talent on the roster, but I would want her as she was before her storyline with the Fiend.
2.) Angel Garza. I think he has a ton of charisma and potential, and he is one of a handful of Raw wrestlers whose matches I really look forward to seeing.
SMACKDOWN
3.) Chad Gable. See Angel Garza, above. I think Gable is a grossly misused talent who should consistently be in the mid- to upper mid-card, and in contention for the Intercontinental Championship.
4.) Aleister Black. I know we have Tommy End in the game, but I think this would represent a significant and well-deserved upgrade for him.
NXT
5.) Finn Bálor. I lied about not wanting any top-tier guys.
6.) Zack Gibson. The card would need to be singles-based, but with a couple tag options in the event we ever got James Drake in the game. Nevertheless, He is my second favorite NXT UK superstar, and his reassignment to NXT allows me to grab him here and save an NXT UK pick for...
NXT UK
7.) Jordan Devlin. ...my favorite NXT UK talent, and it's not even close.
8.) Piper Niven. I'd like to say Dave Mastiff here, but we need an0other lady to go against Alexa Bliss, and Niven has always impressed me.
Anyone else want to play?

What if Mr. McMahon said yes way back when? If I remember my CotG history correctly, Mr. Filsinger called the game "Compu-Card Wrestling" when he presented it to the WWF, and even showed us Promoters his card for Snuka (or at least mentioned it). This was back in 1984(?), so we might have gotten a WWF card game back then!
Would it have been a success? Would THIS BOARD now be property of the WWE? Would Mr. Filsinger be in charge of WWE Games division (if there is one)? And would us Promoters even be talking about Champions of the Galaxy at all?
Great question, Poisoned! Just thought I'd throw a little history in there (and I hope I'm right about the history, it's been a long time since I heard that story about Compu-Card Wrestling)...

An eight card set if Vince said "yes" now would probably be John Cena, Roman Reigns, The Undertaker, The Fiend, Charlotte, Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks and Bayley.
Speaking of that prototype Snuka card, I've heard it was printed in a promoter waaaaay back when. Does anyone have a scan of what that card looked like?

Fun game! Let's see...
RAW
R-Truth - As ridiculous as the 24/7 title is, I absolutely love Truth and would pick him strictly for his entertainment value. I would even say he's been the MVP of this COVID era as far as bringing smiles to peoples faces. I would include an additional 24/7 chart with him as I think that would be a lot of fun.
The Miz - I love to hate him but he's consistently been one of WWE's better performers for nearly 15 years. Superb on the mic and imo pretty damn good in the ring. Because he came from reality TV I think a lot of people never wanted to give him a chance as a credible pro wrestler (including myself).
SMACKDOWN
Jimmy & Jey Uso - I've always been a sucker for Samoan tag teams but these two in-ring bring a different energy and style than those teams I grew up watching like Afa & Sika or the Samoan Swat Team. I believe they are one of the better teams to come along in quite some time.
NXT
Tommaso Ciampa - Love Ciampa. Has a great look and is a guy I always look forward to watching his matches due to his intensity. Also chose him because I want new artwork as I have never been a fan of his ROH artwork. Would go with Gargano as my second choice and to have a ready made feud but I love his Evolve card, from the stats to the artwork.
Finn Balor - Just think he's amazing and should be a top tier statted guy. Would push for his artwork to be designed half and half. One side without paint and the other side the Demon. That or just have the background be the Demon with Balor in the foreground.
UK
Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner - Picked WALTER's Imperium stablemates and former NXT Tag champs. I haven't seen a whole lot of them but we can always use more tag teams to choose from.

Yes, that would be the set if Vince picked it (although only four of the eight names are currently active). However, that is not the same question as "Who would you hope to see in the set?" Also, that list is not in keeping with the parameters of the thought experiment: two talents each from Raw, Smackdown, NXT, and NXT UK. Now, if that is who you'd hope to see in the set, cool. I'd probably find a place for the Fiend, and possibly some of the ladies, but it wouldn't really impress me beyond the fact that it existed. |
