ND ANOTHER ATHLETE Longtime MLB pitcher Rheal Cormier dies at 53 Rheal Cormier, who played 16 seasons in Major League Baseball as a star pitcher for five different teams, died Monday after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 53. A native of New Brunswick, Canada, pitched for the Canadian National Baseball Team in both the 1987 Pan American Games and 1988 Olympics, making his way to the Major Leagues as a sixth-round draft pick by the St. Louis Cardinals. Cormier made his professional debut in 1991, and pitched for the Cardinals through 1994 before joining the Boston Red Sox in 1995. Cormier was traded to the Montreal Expos the next season, and played two years there before missing the entire 1998 season with a shoulder injury. After his second stint with the Red Sox, Cormier would sign with the Philadelphia Phillies, where he would find a home over the next six seasons. Cormier would experience his greatest success as a member of the Phillies, most notably a career year in 2003 where he posted in 84.2 innings with a career-best ERA of 1.70. Cormier would appear in 363 games in all for the Phillies, which ranks second in team history among left-handed pitchers only to franchise great Tug McGraw.

Ded Bob made the announcement on his facebook page just hours ago, that the man behind the mask, Carl Orwick, billed only as Smuj had passed away on March 9th, 2021. Smuj had a massive heart attack, and after a 6 week long battle for his life in the ICU he passed away. His comedic genius will be greatly missed. I know it's a bit confusing, if you didn't see the show, but Ded Bob always took center stage, and asserted that he was not the dummy, though in reality it was Smuj bringing him to life.

As a kid my first exposure to boxing was the Hearns-Hagler-Leonard trinity. Being born in Detroit I of course loved and cheered for Hearns but respected the other two. Hagler was a great.
