ANOTHER ATHLETE Former Ohio State basketball player Granville Waiters passes away AT 60 Waiters grew up in Columbus and graduated from East High School. He played for the Buckeyes from 1980-1983 and was a team captain his last season. For his career, he averaged 5.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game, and still ranks seventh in program history with 136 blocked shots. During his senior season, he averaged 10.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Waiters played five seasons in the NBA but finished his career in Spain, playing his last season in 1989-1990. After basketball, Waiters worked as a financial consultant and served on the board for a charity organization that helped blaze future success for youngsters.

ANOTHER ATHLETE Former AL president Dr. Bobby Brown dies at 96 Four-time World Series winner and former Texas Rangers and American League president Dr. Bobby Brown died in his home in Fort Worth, Texas. He was 96. A family member confirmed Brown's death on Thursday to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Brown batted .279 with 22 homers and 237 RBIs during his time as an infielder with the New York Yankees (1946-52, 1954), helping the club win titles in 1947, 1949, 1950 and 1951. He later served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and practiced cardiology in the Dallas-Fort Worth area until accepting a position to serve as the interim president of the Texas Rangers in 1974. He later was named the president of the American League from 1984-94.

Twins announce bench coach Mike Bell has died from cancer at age 46 Bell filled a variety of roles during his time in the game. He was originally a first-round pick with the Texas Rangers in 1993. He would reach the majors with the Cincinnati Reds as a 25-year-old, hitting .222/.323/.444 with two home runs in 19 games. Bell retired after the 2005 season and moved into non-playing roles. He spent more than a dozen years with the Arizona Diamondbacks, serving first as a minor-league manager and eventually becoming their vice president of player development before departing to join the Twins. Bell was, of course, part of a longtime baseball family. His brother David also played in the majors, and currently manages the Reds.

Legendary college football coach Howard Schnellenberger dies at 87 Howard Schnellenberger, who led Miami to its first national championship and in the process turned a once-floundering football program into a dynasty, died on Saturday, his family announced. He was 87. What Schnellenberger did at Miami remains one of the greatest transformations in college football history.

Robert Rodan died of heart failure March 25 at 83 . The actor had an outsized presence on Dark Shadows, appearing in just 82 episodes in 1968 on the controversial "Dream Curse" storyline. Robert played the Frankenstein-esque Adam during on the show in 1968.
