Berserk Manga Creator Kentarou Miura Passes Away at 54 Miura was born on July 11, 1966 in Chiba prefecture. He made his professional manga debut with the "Futatabi…" (Once More…) story in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 1985. Miura then published the one-shot version of the Berserk manga in Hakusensha's Monthly Comicomi magazine in 1988. He launched the full Berserk manga series in Hakusensha's Monthly Animal House magazine in 1989, and the series continued in Hakusensha's Young Animal magazine until now. It has over 40 million copies in circulation. The Berserk manga follows Guts, a superhumanly strong warrior who wields a large sword, as he wanders a dark medieval world filled with demons, corrupt and decadent nobles, and other horrors. Every night, he is assailed by demons, attracted to the curse branded on him after a traumatic event. He makes his way through the world on a quest to slay a former friend turned demon, who took everything away from him. Hakusensha published the manga's 40th volume in Japan on September 28, 2018. Dark Horse Comics published the same volume in North America in October 8, 2019. The manga inspired a television anime series in 1997, as well as an anime film trilogy from 2012 to 2013. Another television anime series premiered in Japan in July 2016, and the second half of the new series premiered on April 2017. Miura drew the King of Wolves (Oh-Roh) manga with famed Fist of the North Star writer Buronson in 1989. The story continued with Oh-Roh Den (Legend of the King of Wolves) in 1990. Miura and Buronson collaborated again on the Japan manga in 1992. Miura launched the Giganto Maxia mini-series in Young Animal in 2013. More recently, he created and produced the Duranki manga with his Studio Gaga in the inaugural issue of Hakusensha's Young Animal Zero magazine in September 2019.

On May 21, 2021, Dana DeVries passed away.
I know that’s a name that probably doesn’t mean anything to most of you, maybe not any of you. But he was a prolific author and game designer. He was heavily involved in the 7th Sea card game and first edition RPG. He wasn’t as big a celebrity as some, but in the right RPG circles, he was a huge name.
He was also my friend and I will miss him.

Urusei Yatsura, Cutey Honey Song Lyricist Akira Itō Passes Away Akira Itō, the lyricist for many popular commercial jingles and the first opening theme song for the Urusei Yatsura anime as well as other anime classics, passed away on May 15 at a Yokohama hospital due to acute renal failure. He was 80. His immediate family held a private service. Itō was born in Chiba prefecture. He began writing lyrics for commercials and plotted out television programs at Jōdan Kōbō (Joke Studio) — a creator collective overseen by writer and composer Toriro Miki (Tetsujin 28-go, New Jungle Emperor, Go Ahead Leo!) — before going independent. His commercial jingle "Hitachi no Ki" (Hitachi Tree) for the electronics maker Hitachi became well-known throughout Japan. His other familiar compositions include the songs "Isojin" (Iodine) for Meiji Iodine, "Kinoko no Yama" (Mushroom Mountain) for Meiji's chocolate biscuits of the same name, "Kappa Ebisen" for Calbee's shrimp-flavored snacks, and "Seiun" for Nippon Kodo's incense sticks. He also collaborated on the jingle for Mitsuya Cider with Eiichi Ōtaki. Itō is arguably best known outside commercial jingles for penning the lyrics for the first opening theme song "Lum no Love Song" (Lum's Love Song) for the Urusei Yatsura anime. He also wrote theme songs for Tetsujin 28-go (Gigantor), Cutey Honey, Muteki Robo Trider G7, Barefoot Gen 2, Mashin Hero Wataru, Nanako SOS, Stop! Hibari-kun, and more popular anime.

Samuel E. Wright, Voice of Sebastian in The Little Mermaid, Dead at 74 Wright portrayal of Sebastian was an instant favorite after the film's initial release and he would continue to voice the character for much of his career including reprising the role for several other Disney projects including The Little Mermaid TV series, the direct-to-vice Little Mermaid 2, the House of Mouse short collection, and many more. He would also lend his voice to 2000 animated film Dinosaur as well. Wright's career was not limited exclusively to Disney though as he was a working actor for ten years before voicing the role that would make his voice famous. His prior credits to Sebastian were appearances on shows like Simon & Simon, The Cosby Show, and All My Children. He even starred in a series as a co-lead, the short-lived Enos which was a spin-off to The Dukes of Hazzard. Though best known for his screen work, Wright was also known for acting on the stage, appearing in musicals like Jesus Christ Superstar and Pippin on Broadway while also originating the part of Mufasa for The Lion King Tony award winning Broadway musical.
