Snow days are definitely still a thing. Some of the teachers love them as much as the kids do.

I've wanted it gone for a LONG time. Makes zero sense in this day and age. We aren't really conserving energy the way we were in the 1940s.

I was going to say that it was actually BENJAMIN FRANKLIN'S idea, but Google says NO! Glad I didn't say it then, haha! Todd C WTIC

Todd C WTIC I could be mistaken as I teach World History and not US History but I believe Benjamin Franklin once did suggest something along the lines of Daylight Saving Time but the idea did not actually start being used until around WWI.

I say spring ahead and then leave it there. Stay in the day lights saving. I know there are certain reasons to keep going back and forth but not enough to outweigh reasons to stop.

The older I get the less I like the time swaps...seriously, by the time I am sleeping what passes as normal for me, it's darn near time to switch.
I understand why it was brought into use, but I do believe that it's not necessary any more - no one is "saving" any daylight, it's there all the time and we just mess with our bio-rhythm switching back and forth...
(and I too am wondering what "retail" has to do with this topic?)

I am glad to see I am not the only one here who would prefer to just have a standard time one way or the other.
One of the few times I liked Daylight Saving Time was after I went to a Seahawks-Cardinals game in Arizona one time in December and I had to fly back to Las Vegas that night for work the next morning. Since Arizona is smart and does not have Daylight Saving Time but Nevada has it, my 1-hour 6-minute flight from Phoenix to Las Vegas turned into just a 6-minute flight which made it easier for me to get back home and get ready for work that Monday morning.

The reason they moved DST from when it was to what it is now is because retail wanted the extra light at night for shopping. That's as simple as it is. Studies have proved it doesn't save energy so there's little reason for it, I'm against time switching either way so pick one and do it all year long.

Twenty + years ago I worked at a body shop fixing and painting cars. Real tough hard working guys. Except for one dude who was always jerking around. I’ll never forget the final straw was when he showed up an hour late on day lights saving day, claiming to have forgotten about the time change. He was obviously full of crap (and finally admitted it to me later). The boss canned him on the spot, but I’ll never forget his horrible acting job pretending to truly have forgotten about the time change while everybody else made it in on time.
I bet a lot of people try that trick and fail.
