I think the in person con will continue until attendance seems to drop down to a dozen or single digits a couple years in a row. Then the live con might stop. Only way to bump up attendance a little is to not do a virtual con at the same time. it's both good and bad but I think the live and virtual together once a year will be the format until there's good reasons to change it.

I know barring any health recommendations from my doctor, my plan is to attend in person each year starting with next year and moving forward.

I would probably not be flying if there had been an easier option to get to Waterloo. And I would have had to fly to Philly hence why I could only do one or the other.

I wanted to attend the con this year in person but I just got back from a vacation with the kids the week before the 4th and I need a weekend to recharge. Life just gets in the way. I got 2 kids under 6 with another due in December. It’s hard to get away for a whole weekend. A few hours here and there you can negotiate. I wish came to more when I was younger and hope to come to one in the future, but the online cons are just more convenient.

Me, personally I'm looking forward to the road trip with my son and the personal interaction with fellow promoters/FRIENDS and the complete and utter destruction of DKII...! The Road Trip/Travel is one of the best parts. I loved getting to see the new places that I travelled through and got to stay at on the trips from all over in getting to Jamestown, Philly, and Pittsburgh (even though I was living in Pittsburgh at the time, I got to see a part of it I hadn't been to previously for GalactiCon). And I have agree (once again with @kevinb) that the in-person interaction with fellow promoters and FRIENDS is not something most of us get to do often, so it is a blast catching up with everyone when we do get to roll the dice at GalactiCon. And getting to see @kevinb "eat crow" is dam neat the best part of all!!!

It is obvious that @kevinb doesn't have a grasp of the English language and the saying that translates to "you are gonna get your @$$ handed to you". Besides, Code Destroyer's crowbar might just be hanging out for use in a special match...hence, "eat crow" is very appropriate!

Generally I prefer being there live to being there virtually. I do like the option of having virtual attendance, but I would be upset if that caused attendance to dwindle to the point of a live get-together not being worth it anymore.
Of course I won't be doing anything to help in this matter this year--through a stroke of luck I got the weekend off of work (rare for a non-vacation week), but I have an overseas trip for my brother's wedding planned for August so being there live isn't really an option at the moment. But I'll be there for most of the weekend online and plan to bid in the auctions, as much to donate to the HOF as to get my hands on loot.
This is very, very self-serving of me but I'm not the biggest fan of Philly as a regular site. It has its pluses (convenient location for East Coasters, good wrestling town with live event tie-in potential) but for me it's a pain to have to drive halfway through Ohio and then all the way across PA, yet it's not far enough to justify flying in, either. I don't have a problem with the city itself, it's just not really a "yearly vacation" type of city for my tastes. I would make every effort to get to Chicago, though--close enough to drive to in half a day and just way, way, way more stuff to do.

There's nothing like a last second unplanned road trip.
