Didn't really like Stadium Stampede but overall this might be my favorite AEW PPV. Basically everything delivered aside from the main event.

This was an awesome PPV tonight.

Some of my favorite matches included Serena Deb vs Riho (really glad I logged in early for the Preshow match,) Cage vs Page, Bucks vs Moxley/Kingston, and Orange Cassidy vs PAC vs Kenny Omega. The ending of the battle royal between Jungle Boy and Christian was also really good and Sting is extremely amazing for someone in his 60s.

I thought the previous AEW PPV, even without the fiasco at the end, was only so so but I think tonight's Double or Nothing will probably be one of my favorite PPVs of the year. I think I am going to go to Chicago in September for the Second City Summit, so I might also try to attend All Out that weekend.

It is amazing that they have the full show on YouTube (not the clearest of pictures) and the Sting & Darby Allen vs. Scorpio Sky & Ethan Page match was cool stuff, Sting looked good at his age...

Here's the feedback I sent in to the Observer.

Thumbs Way Up
Best Match: Young Bucks vs. Kingston and Moxley
Worst Match: Stadium Stampede

This was easily, and I do mean easily, the best AEW Pay-Per-View since at least Full Gear 2019. The buy in match with Riho and Serena was phenomenal, even better than their match in the women's title eliminator tournament. Cage and Hangman had an insane, action-packed opening match where I bit on more than one of the false finishes. The Bucks match was, in my estimation, the best Bucks match in a number of years going back to their series with reDRagon in ROH and New Japan. Their shtick was at a minimum and what we got was the closest to that Midnight Express comparison that people have made for years. Moxley and Kingston were excellent here as well, everything came together perfectly. I wasn't as thrilled with the battle royal, but I did like the ending with Jungle Boy winning and Christian telling him "you beat me now go get the belt". I expect Jungle Boy vs. Kenny will be great. Cody vs. Ogogo was a perfectly fine match, I guess you couldn't write Cody and Moxley off on the same night and you probably don't want Cody to lose if he's using his dad's nickname. Baker/Shida was very good, but kind of lost the plot about halfway through. The finishing stretch was great though.

And then there was the Sting match. Anyone who's ever said that guy wasn't the man can take a friggin' seat. He was incredible when he was in the ring, Darby was excellent, Ethan Page managed to actually not suck for one of the very first times in his career. Even Scorpio Sky was good in that match. It came together so perfectly, it was the highlight of the show for me but not the best match.

The World Title 3-way was a match that I, admittedly, was not looking forward to. It took a bit for them to really get me into the match but I bit on basically every Orange Cassidy false finish towards the end. Omega was unbelievably good in this match, the AEW run has really turned my opinion of his work around. He's really been on a hell of a run since Double or Nothing in 2019.

Then there was Stadium Stampede and....I don't know. This kind of match didn't work for me last year even if you take out the drowning spot on a show where they paid tribute to Shad Gaspard. Cinematic matches often suck and this one felt like a corny action movie. The FTR and Tully in the club bit was funny, but beyond that there really wasn't a whole lot there for me to really give a crap about. I expected a more violent, bloody version of what we got last year but again...lame action movie BS. Someone needs to tell Jericho he's not a genius, every gimmick match he's involved with is worse off for his involvement.

But yeah, all things considered this was an incredible show and I don't see how they can top this one this year, or how anyone else can for that matter. Having the crowd back was probably a big part of it too, since one of the things that I loved about AEW before the pandemic was how electric and enthusiastic the crowds were and they certainly were last night. Hopefully this trend continues when they go back out on the road.

Triple Threat matches are something that should be special events not something where every show seems to have one. Five months into the year and I think we have had more than five already this year. Something with modern wrestling, all good things in moderation.

I'm kind of curious to hear Cornettes review, I had it on in the background while playing. It seemed like a good show compared to their last couple Ppvs.

I mean, multi-man matches became a thing in the US in the mid 90s and by the late 90s were becoming more common place and were solidified as a go-to match option by like 2002. It's not really an issue exclusive to modern wrestling, they've been overdone for like 20 years now. Last night's three way match was the first world title 3 way match AEW have done.
