I remember 1982 and Paolo Rossi. It's the first world cup I remember. Although i was almost 10 for Mexico 1986 so that was the world cup I was able to really follow and enjoy. It's how a world cup should be for me. Non HD, played in heat with commentators sounding like they are talking down a phone line in a land far, far away. Also the South American teams etc very special to see as you hardly ever saw them or their players other than at world cup time. Now they are on the box seemingly all the time But I digress from the original subject - let's hope England go for it and don't play too negative. Italy will have lots of tricks up their sleeves but this is a big chance. On home soil we have to be slight favourites. I predict a tight 2-1 win The 1982 World Cup was my first. Plenty of talking points - our 27-second goal against France, Hungary scoring 10 goals past El Salvador, the Prince of Kuwait calling his team off the pitch until the ref disallowed a goal, West Germany and Austria cheating their way into the 2nd round, Harald Schumacher, Germany's goalkeeper, taking out Patrick Battiston so hard he shattered several teeth. I was 14 for Mexico 1986 and agree with you about how it should be. The final was a classic too. England to win tomorrow but we need the Italians to have a bad day at the office!

I'd forgotten about all those dramatic moments in 1982. The Schumacher assault on Battiston was shocking. How did the ref not call a foul? I vaguely remember Brazil being unbelievable at times, the best side not to win a world cup possibly. In 1986 aside from England I had a real soft spot for the dazzling Danes. I liked their kit and they had this incredible flair. So talented. Walked through the group of death only to implode against Spain. They had a tendency to do that back then. Win 6-0 one game and then go and lose heavy in the next. They were very entertaining. And of course Argentina-England was special for 2 very different reasons. These days i look back on Hand of God as kind of a good thing. I find controversy exciting. Something VAR has killed. But what Maradona did for both goals is part of legend and will never be forgotten. A talking point forever. Just like Geoff Hurst's controversial was it over the line goal. I love the controversial (maybe somewhat unhinged) characters that can light things up. In football it was Maradona, in motor racing it was the great Ayrton Senna and I'd say in wrestling it translates to Ultimate Warrior for me

This is turning into a sore subject for me now personally . Working missing the final . Some other rival shops are closing , so their workers can watch it . Mine just ignored the workers pleas , Thinking about the money they will take them from none football fans . I don't even know who (if anyone) is coming in at the end of my shift 2230hrs . If it goes to extra time or penalties or if they are drunk . Could still be there Monday morning at 0630hrs . I'm English but because of all this , there is a sick sad side of me who wants Italy to WIN .
#UselessFacts I was born on the day the last time England won a trophy in 1966 (World cup willie)

Come on England! I honestly didn't think I'd see them reach a final in my lifetime. Always destined to choke at the semi final stage. They'll need to play much better than they did against Denmark to beat Italy though. England at the moment reminds very much of the Italian teams of old. Italy would always start slow, very few goals and get better as the tournament went on. 1982 World Cup which they won, they didn't even win a group game. Three draws but somehow it was enough to qualify in 2nd place. They then go into a 2nd round group of 3 with Brazil and Argentina and just got better and better. I remember 1982 and Paolo Rossi. Paolo Rossi 1982 I thought he was going to go on and become the next world famous striker , but it never happened

For anyone who doesn't know after drawing 1-1 after 90 minutes then extra time (another 30 minutes) onto penalties . Which of course Italy won . 55 years of heartbreak and disappointment carries on to Qatar 2022 world cup

Can't believe they were up 2-1 after 2 rounds of penalties and lost 3-2. Brutal!

Some people question England's manager Southgate choice of penalty takers . Southgate picked a kid , ahead of more experienced players
Sadly the black players that missed penalties suffered racism abuse on social media
