We might not find the grail, this ain't the golden age of Camelot, and the table's not so much round as it is a Zoom meeting room, but we have a knightly panel assembled as we are joined by Mark Ashby, Jack Durakos, Tim Dalton, Kirk Campbell, Rob Nadon, Mike Fortune, and Chad Olson to discuss the very first Galacticon! It was great hearing everyone share their experiences. My first was 92 (#3) and it was Mike and Rob that took me under their Canadian wings and helped me accumulate to the cut throat world of Galacticon. I view ALL these guys as family. Galacticon grew to more than just a gaming convention, it really seemed like a family reunion.
The Seldon House, what can you say? Its all true, the mystique, the aura and the force. Its real, its all real. It still remains a family reunion, but Galacticon definitely lost something when it left the hallowed halls. The Jamestown community College was nice and severed the purpose and just when it started feeling like home the Con left Jamestown all together... 💔
I remember one year, my son Matthew and I left for Galacticon on a last minute whim with NO planning or preparation. On Saturday night we had nowhere to stay, as every hotel and motel were full. Lake Chitaquewa (sp) is a thing and very nice. Mike Melesky and his brother Kevin let us crash on the floor in their room at the Sheldon house. That's the only time I got to stay there and I will never forget Mike and Kevin's generosity.
