I have no idea who Austin Idol is. I am kind of in the same boat on this one. I know who he is, but beyond the name, I've never seen his work. But the neat thing about this game is it makes one want to look into the history of the wrestlers you might know nothing about.

There's no shortage of video out there and his likely inclusion in the set raises the question of whether we will get a heel card for Tommy Rich. If you don't know the Universal Heartthrob, he's well worth learning about.

Very much so...besides Memphis, he had good runs in Georgia and the Alabama/Knoxville area.

Austin Idol would have been a megastar in the 80s had he not been involved in that infamous plane crash. He basically quit traveling and became a big fish in a small pond after that. The guy had the look, size, and the talk to be one of THE guys. He really did things on his own terms, and all credit to him for it. Those not familiar should for sure check out his superior promos via the 'tube or any less restrictive video sharing site. He was real good.

Just sat here reading the Austin Idol Wikipedia page after reading your post. As a WWF kid, all I knew about Austin Idol was from the pages of PWI, but he was one of my favorite non-WWF back then and I always wished he would show up one day to fight guys like Hogan and Savage. Knew nothing about his place crash or his distaste for cold weather. I remember reading about the fireball incident w Jerry Lawler and being mesmerized by the whole situation.

Idol is a true great when it comes to Memphis Wrestling, probably right up there with Lawler, Dundee, and Gilbert. So, here is the thing that has me excited. If Idol is announced that means we have bigger names yet to come, which is AMAZING. This set was a must buy for me before this announcement, just because of the possibility of a color Bill Dundee. Who else could be joining the party?

I had heard the "Big fish" thing about Idol before, but never heard about the plane crash till you posted it here. That's the cost of having a cable system that didn't even have TBS until the late '80s. I did read my friend's Apter mags, but wasn't interested in wrestling I couldn't see on TV. Thank goodness there's sites like Youtube and such that has most of the old wrestling stuff on them, and luckily those shows were recorded and kept at the time, otherwise that would have been a lot of wrestling history lost, and I do mean A LOT! I don't like Austin Idol's chances against Vader but it'll be awesome to have him in the game.
