Card #12
For the first time in our history, the GWA takes their show on the road to San Antonio, Texas. Freeman Coliseum hosts an exciting card tonight headlined by a historical GWA World Championship bout between Mexican Lucha practitioners El Santo and the Black Shadow.
Bull Curry vs Billy Varga - The disciple of violence meets the Hollywood grappler. Curry looked quite competitive through this match, bludgeoning Varga with a number of punches and kicks. Eventually, Varga managed to clinch Curry in a wicked abdominal stretch. VARGA WINS BY SUBMISSION
Gory Guerrero vs Al Costello - Gory Guererro's slide to mediocrity meets a sudden and unexpected Al Costello hot streak. The two trends would continue here, as Costello wrested control of the match from Costello time and again, and eventually finished it off rolling Guerrero into a reverse nelson for the pin. COSTELLO PINS GUERRERO
Danny McShain vs Rod Fenton - Our next match is a pairing of two tough brawlers, Danny McShain and Rod Fenton. The match managed to exceed expectations. At the bell, the two collided at the center of the ring and instantly started exchanging punches. The intensity only escalated from there, eventually continuing outside the ring. When the brawl threatened to expand past the barrier into the crowd, the ref had no choice but to call for a double disqualification. DOUBLE DISQUALIFICATION
Jim Londos vs Buddy Rogers - We present a matchup of pretty boys in our next bout, as Jim Londos meets Buddy Rogers. Rogers would carry the day, exhibiting his expanding arsenal of skillful maneuvers. Rogers would cap off a flurry of punishing moves with a pair of atomic drops before mercifully pinning Londos. ROGERS PINS LONDOS.
Black Shadow vs El Santo - GWA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOUT - BEST OF 3 FALLS - The GWA belt comes to Texas to be contested between two skilled Lucha warriors. The match would not disapoint. The first fall was a gruelling back and forth struggle where both men seemed to have the pin, only to be denied at the last nanosecond. The Champ would eventually secure the pin. The second fall saw the challenger catch his second wind, and shockingly dominate the Champ, securing the pin with a diving body block. The third fall in and of itself would qualify as one of the greatest bouts ever, with both luchadors battling to the point of exhaustion, hitting the opponent with a never before seen variety of maneuvers. Both men struggled out of pins multiple times. El Santo would eventually send the Shadow through the ropes with a dropkick, from which Shadow was unable to recover in time to reenter the ring. EL SANTO WINS IN SPLIT FALLS

Card #1 - From Turner's Arena in Washington DC, the GWA presents...
Verne Gagne vs Stu Hart - The season kicks off with a pairing of two promising first timers. Verne Gagne, the golden boy multi-sport college athlete from Minnesota facing the promising grappler from Saskatchewan. Stu Hart took the early momentum and looked strong and capable. As the match wore on, Gagne's quickness and agility took over. Gagne slipped a hold attempt, and clamped on a wicked sleeper hold to secure the win. GAGNE WINS BY SUBMISSION
Freddie Blassie vs Red Berry - Veteran tough guy Red Berry would be the opposition for the debut of Classy Freddie Blassie. The match was a tight back and forth struggle, until Blassie went on a sudden offensive flurry, capped by a wicked abdominal nerve claw. Berry could not fight his way free and tapped. BLASSIE WINS BY SUBMISSION
Gorgeous George vs Fritz Von Goering - The Gorgeous One found himself basking in the full support of the crowd. His opponent happened to be German expat Fritz Von Goering. Too soon? Too bad. George delivered an inspired performance, and put away his opponent with a spinning toehold. GEORGE WINS BY SUBMISSION
Rod Fenton vs Antonino Rocca - Canadian wild man Rod Fenton drew the task of welcoming the Argentine Antonino Rocca to the GWA. Rocca started off from the bell with an aggressive technical offensive. Fenton scrambled to counter, and turned the contest into a brawl. Fenton managed to send Rocca sprawling out of the ring with a dropkick, then went out of the ring to chase him down. the ref followed, trying to maintain order, only to be shoved into the ring post by Fenton. The ref recovered to call for the bell. ROCCA WINS BY DISQUALIFICATION
Bronko Nagurski vs Buddy Rogers (w/ Bob Hope) - The most contentious matches from the previous season solved nothing, and this feud appears to only be getting bigger. Rogers came to the ring accompanied by friend and fan Bob Hope, and his trust nine iron. Nagurski appeared unimpressed, and from the bell, completely controlled the match. A powerslam sent Rogers' back to the mat, and Nagurski was on him for the pin. Hope's desperate leap into the ring to prevent the ref's count came up short, and the match was over. NAGURSKI PINS ROGERS
The Black Shadow & The Blue Demon vs The Kangaroos (Costello & Heffernan) - The GWA presents our first ever tag team match in tonight's main event. The Mexican Luchador pair of the Black Shadow and the Blue Demon meeting the Australian team of Al Costello and Roy Heffernan. Heffernan would start out against the Black Shadow and dominated the action. Before the crowd was aware, Heffernan wrapped up the Shadow for a pin, as Costello fended off the onrushing Demon as the ref finished the three count. COSTELLO & HEFFERNAN WIN

Card #2 From Boston Garden, downtown Boston, MA
The Sheik vs Billy Varga - The mystery man from the Syrian Desert steps in a GWA ring for the first time against Billy Varga. Varga maintains the offensive for most of the match, when suddenly, The Sheik defensively kicks both feet out from the turnbuckle, catching the onrushing Varga square, then pounced for the pin. SHEIK PINS VARGA.
Don Leo Jonathan vs Angelo Poffo - A matchup of two debuting combatants is next on the docket, as the Mormon Giant, Don Leo Jonathan takes on Chicagoland tough guy Angelo Poffo. Despite the considerable size deficit, Poffo more than holds his own, even managing to slam the Giant. Jonathan would weather Poffo's offensive, and grind down the smaller man, eventually sending him flying from his Mormon Swing, and securing the pin. JONATHAN PINS POFFO. Lord James Blears vs Maurice Tillet - We're next introduced to the vain Lord James Blears, who steps in against Maurice Tillet. Blears turns out to back up his attitude, putting on a shocking exhibition of skill and athleticism, completely dominating the match with the veteran Frenchman. Blears quickly finishes off his foe with his patented Oxford Leg Lock. BLEARS WINS BY SUBMISSION
Yukon Eric vs Johnny Valentine - Hailing from Seattle, Johnny Valentine steps in for his GWA debut against the Canadian tough guy, Yukon Eric. The larger, more seasoned Eric controlled the action through most of the contest, overpowering Valentine with holds, throws and chops, finally felling his foe with a woodsman's chop. ERIC PINS VALENTINE
The Crusher vs Jim Londos - The latest combatant to debut in the GWA is the loud raucous Crusher, fresh from the brew halls of Milwaukee. His opponent would be the veteran Jim Londos. The Crusher gave notice to the rest of the GWA, putting up a dominant performance, controlling the action and administering a beating of Londos. He'd finish off the match with a crushing flying body block into a reeling Londos in the turnbuckle. The pin was just a formality. CRUSHER PINS LONDOS
Lou Thesz vs El Santo - GWA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOUT - BEST OF 3 FALLS - The highly anticipated main event of the card finds the undefeated World Champion, El Santo, defending his record and his belt against it's former owner, Lou Thesz. The 2 of 3 falls format made for a very memorable spectacle of strength, athelticism, toughness, and heart. The two combatants waged a brutal battle, neither man gaining much of an upper hand. The challenger seemed to take momentum, landing a pair of flying presses, but was unable to get the pin, but finally, was able to send his man to the mat one time too many, winning the first fall. The second fall would go on much the same way, with the champ kicking out from another Thesz press, before leaping from the turnbuckle and delivering a flying tackle of Thesz, securing the pin, and forcing a third deciding fall. Thesz was again unable to secure the pin, and paid for it, when Santo again hit a devastating flying tackle, pinning Thesz, and maintaining his rule in the GWA. SANTO WINS IN 2/3 FALLS

Card # 3 From the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan, New York City
Danny McShain vs Bull Curry - McShain. Curry. Sounds like a bar fight. That's more or less what we got. A lot of punches, a lot of kicks, an eye gouge here or there, a palm strike here, a choke there. McShain connected with an uppercut, then wrapped up the Bull to deliver a legbreaker to soften him up for the pin. MCSHAIN PINS CURRY
Killer Kowalski vs Gory Guerrero - The large, imposing figure of Killer Kowalski was introduced to the New York crowd to face the skilled Gory Guerrero. The debut would not be a memorable one, as Guerrero would put on a clinic. Gory exhibited a variety of holds, wearing down his larger opponent, before racking him up for the Gory Especial. GUERRERO WINS BY SUBMISSION
Roy Heffernan vs Chief Don Eagle - Aussie Roy Heffernan looked impressive his last time out in tag team action. On his own tonight, he could not repeat that perfomance, as Don Eagle would eventually take control of the match, and emerge victorious after clamping on his Indian Deathlock. EAGLE WINS BY SUBMISSION
Rod Fenton vs Fritz Von Goering - Two brutal men would meet in the ring in our next match, Fritz Von Goering and Rod Fenton. This one would devolve into a peir six brawl in short time, spilling outside of the ring. The referee had lost control of the match, and had to bring the match to an end. He then raised Von Goering's arm as the victor, disqualifying Fenton. Most in attendance remained unsure how Fenton could be singled out. VON GOERING WINS BY DISQUALIFICATION
Black Shadow vs Antonino Rocca - The impressive young Argentinian Rocca would meet the ranked contender from Mexico City, the Black Shadow. The match was an entertaining contest, with Rocca matching the Shadow, exchanging momentum for most of the match. Rocca would suddenly toss Shadow into the turnbuckle, and quickly connect with running shoulder check, then capping the match with a power slam for the pin. ROCCA PINS SHADOW
Gorgeous George vs Verne Gagne - The headliner of this card would pit the promising newcomer, Gagne, against the polarizing antagonist, Gorgeous George. Gagne looked strong and impressive, but George's underhanded tactics and cheap shots deterred Gagne from securing the win. Gagne would finally sent George sprawling with a devastating dropkick, and hooked the leg to secure the pin. GAGNE PINS GEORGE

Card # 4 From Olympia Stadium, Detroit, Michigan
Red Berry vs The Blue Demon - The crafty Red managed to take control of the match early, but could not maintain it, as the Demon withstood the early assault to put on an impressive exhibition. To finish it off, he launched himself over the top rope to flatten Berry with a body press. DEMON PINS BERRY
Al Costello vs Buddy Rogers - Aussie Al Costello and Buddy Rogers are impressive athletes and skilled wrestling tacticians. No, really, they are...despite what you saw in this match. This one devolved to an ugly brawl in no time. The referee had no choice but to call for the bell. He then suddenly raised Costello's arm as the winner. Two straight cards with a controversial decision. COSTELLO WINS BY DISQUALIFICATION
Johnny Valentine vs Lord James Blears - Blears impressed in his debut, while Valentine disappointed. The two combatants began this contest filling those same roles. Out of nowhere, Valentine caught his second wind and turned the tide. In a flash, Blears was laid out with a forearm hammer, and Valentine had the pin. VALENTINE PINS BLEARS
The Crusher vs The Sheik - This highly anticipated matchup of two promising rookies did not live up to the billing. The Crusher did live up to his name, absolutely crushing The Sheik, who to his credit managed to stay off his back longer than most would. All that got him was a wicked bolo punch to the chin. CRUSHER PINS SHEIK
Billy Varga & Freddie Blassie vs Stu Hart & Rod Fenton - Blassie and Varga did manage to tag in and out like a seasoned team. That's all they accomplished, as Rod Fenton beat them both up between tags. FENTON PINS VARGA
Bronko Nagurski vs El Santo - GWA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOUT - BEST OF 3 FALLS - The NFL Legend gets his second opportunity at the GWA belt. To win it, he has to do what's never been done, beat El Santo. Nagurski controlled the action in the first fall, eventually, Santo retreated outside the ring to gather himself, only to have Nagurski chase after him. Santo reversed course, reentered the ring, and ambushed Nagurski as he reentered the ring. El Santo pounced, locking on La De A Caballo, and took the first fall. The second fall started off much like the first, but this time, Nagurski kept it in the ring, and got position on the champ for his modified crab, cranked up the pressure, and evened the match at a fall apiece. Nagurski would maintain the offensive in the deciding fall, again locking on his crab hold, and wrenching on Santo's hip and back until he tapped. NAGURSKI WINS THE BELT IN SPLIT FALLS.

Card #5 From Convention Hall, Philadelphia PA

Bull Curry vs Chief Don Eagle - The Bull Curry dedication to senseless violence meets a focused and dedicated Cheif Don Eagle. The Chief managed the match well, though Curry did manage some tangible offense. A Don Eagle dropkick sent Curry sprawling out of the ring, then connected on another from the ring apron, laying Curry out on the arena floor. Don Eagle then made it back into the ring, while Curry was unable. EAGLE WINS BY COUNTOUT Danny McShain vs Killer Kowalski - The big Texan Danny McShain would draw the huge Killer Kowalski as his next opponent. McShain came out at the bell aggressively, but could not overcome the size and strength advantage of the Killer, who proceeded to administer punishment, capping it off by pressing McShain over his head and slamming him to the mat. KOWALSKI PINS MCSHAIN
Lou Thesz vs Yukon Eric - The former champ would face the physically imposing Yukon Eric. There are few in teh GWA who can match Eric for pure strength, but Thesz' pure wresting talent would clearly be the deciding factor in this contest. Yukon did manage to kick out after two Thesz presses, before Thesz managed a pin after a Greco Roman backdrop. THESZ PINS ERIC
Gory Guerrero vs Maurice Tillet - The Tex-Mex Luchador, Guerrero would face the French brawler, Tillet. The match would be tightly contested for several minutes until Tillet managed a dropkick that sent Guerrero out of the ring. Tillet would follow Guerrero outside, where he administered a couple strikes and a slam, then hustled back into the ring to score the countout win. TILLET WINS BY COUNTOUT
Don Leo Jonathan vs Gorgeous George - The main event tonight pits the impressive Mormon Giant against the shifty Human Orchid, Gorgeous George. George strategically kept his distance, not allowing the stronger Jonathan to get his hands on him, darting in and out for quick moves, and retreating when the initiative was gone. George managed to get Jonathan to the mat, and pounced to execute his famous stepover toehold. The Giant surprisingly tapped out in defeat. GEORGE WINS BY SUBMISSION

I keep forgetting to hit the like button, but I'm reading all the updates.
Sort of surprised that Fenton manhandled Varga and Blassie.

Thanks Carlzilla
Fenton has a couple eyebrow raising performances on his resume. This is one, and his upset win over Nagurski in the opening card last season.

Lou Thesz vs Lord James Blears - The good Mr. Blears takes a step up in competition, and was treated to a harsh lesson lasting almost five minutes, probably feeling more like twenty. THESZ PINS BLEARS.
