I’m starting a Legends fed and I want some input on how everyone does theirs. I have most all the color sets and it seems a little daunting choosing a roster. What do think is the optimal roster size? How many upper card guys do you use? How many tag teams? Very interested in everyone’s ideas on this.

I like to try to use all of my cards. So I am working on an idea of a fed where all of my cards are split up into 4 regions. About 20-ish wrestlers per region. The champions tavel to each region, defend and move to the next region. If a champion loses, they stay in the region they loss in and the new champ moves on.
Still working on some of the details, like how managers and stables will work.
To get my starting champions, I held a tournament for each belt to determine them.

Give yourself some var iety to keep things interesting. I have about 45 wrestlers, a healthy mix. I do 2 tv shows per week, and I do 2 house shows mid week. I don't want to get bored, so I'll bring in some new guys every 6 months. I do like the idea of having territories with a travelling World Champ too. That will be fun to try.

I've got every color card set offered and I have put all singles/tag teams into a spreadsheet. I choose my initial roster on my own. I got with 22-24 TOTAL wrestlers (this includes tag teams). I go 14-16 singles with 4 tag teams. Next I do a 2d6 roll to determine the length of contract (in months) for my initial roster (i.e. Tracy Smothers 2d6 roll = 2, this would be a 2-month contract). Based on the length of the initial contract it determines whether or not the talent will work a meaningful blow-off type feud/program or will just plant the seed for a future return or just be in the territory as an attraction. After this, all the wrestlers that were not selected are put into the "free agent" list. I categorize my cards by set, so when it's time to bring in new talent (depending on how many I bring in to replace guys leaving, 4 leave = 4 new wrestlers), I select one from each applicable set with a random selection formula I have in the spreadsheet. So the spreadsheet dictates my roster after the initial start of the fed. I also use certain talents as "special attractions" and I have a separate "Pioneers" division for guys who wrestled a majority of their career before 1970. Those "Pioneers" have their own separate Pioneers Championship tour that travels around the country. It's mainly head-cannon. However, I roll one match per week for the Pioneer Champion against a new opponent each week to defend their title. Special attractions can't win titles, they simply come/go as I please for 1-match appearances or a VERY SHORT program with a member on the roster that is getting a push or is on a hot-streak. I have a territory singles champ, territory tag champs and an open challenge champ (defended weekly) in my territory. The NWA World Champion and the NWA Tag Champions travel around the country weekly to defend their titles. Same goes for the Women's division. All of the NWA champs (Singles, Tag & Women's) are single matches rolled each week against varying opponents to keep a story going on the "world champs" but I don't run multiple territories. Just my fed. So a match week for me would look like this: Territory matchcard: 4-6 matches NWA World Champ: 1 match (NWA Champ vs Randomly selected free agent wrestler) ***I go on a rotation with territories, so when it's time for the NWA Champ to visit my territory, this is obviously a special match on the card and isn't a randomly selected free agent, instead it is my territory champ. If my territory champ wins, then he takes over touring the country and the former champ signs a contract (2d6 roll) with my territory and the territory title is considered vacant*** NWA Tag Champs: 1 match (NWA Tag Champs vs Randomly selected free agent tag team) ***SEE ABOVE*** NWA Women's Champ: 1 match (NWA Women's Champ vs randomly selected female wrestler) - I don't have a female division in my territory, so the female division is all free agents. I tried to be as detailed as possible, I hope it helps. That being said, as many like to point out - "It's up to you promoter!" There is no right or wrong way to run a fed. Run what works for you. Enjoy it, have fun with it and don't make it so cumbersome that it feels like a chore. Once you do get the fed up and running, let us know what approach you take and what roster you selected!

I like this concept and is something I have been contemplating doing myself. With two kids now, my time is more limited but with so many great cards to use I think this method might be the best balance, especially for someone like me that wants to do a territory style. Any chance you might be willing to share that spreadsheet? I’m always looking for a good spreadsheet to use with the game. If not I understand.

Great question and one that circulates around from time to time. Given the volume of cards now available this is how I set up my Maple Leaf Wrestling territory. I listed each card by the ROHL ranking. The numbers are available on the board. Travis605 has a thread that is excellent resource to create this list. I then divided the list into four equal parts based on the ranking: Main Event, Upper Mid Card, Lower Mid Card and Preliminary. So if you start with 200 competitors, 50 competitors in each section. I then decided on a roster size. I used 32 which breaks down into 8 competitors from each of the ranking sections. I then rolled two dice and started at the top ranked competitor. I rolled eight times for the main event ranked competitors. I then moved on to the upper mid card competitors and so on. This provides a completely random roster with a mix of talent and abilities. Sort of a random draft. Tag teams get tricky. If you roll gives you Road Warrior Hawk from the main event competitors, I would suggest you “draft” Animal right away to join him. What becomes interesting is that you find that certain tag teams may have competitors from different ranking sections so you will need to decide how that will work. When it comes to time for have a competitor leave my territory, I roll the dice (from the spot where the last roll ended) in the same ranking part that the outgoing competitor is listed in. That way, I can maintain a balanced roster. I didn’t worry necessarily about tag teams v. singles. If you rotate out competitors regularly, it will work itself out. As an example, in my main event competitors, 4 of the 8 spots are currently taken up with tag team competitors. This has weakened my singles roster slightly but it has allowed me to book the British Bulldogs to go after the Road Warriors at my next big event.

I personally am going to keep growing my Legends fed into NWA like territories. I started my fed starting "January 1, 2017" and intro wrestlers on the day they were announced by Filsinger Games (and another territory will pop up) I know its a cliche, but "its your fed". I don't believe in a set number for a fed....do what works for you and dont let it overwhelm you. I also think if you're going to do a fed, balance is the key. Don't overwhelm it with main eventers. Balance with upper, mid and lower card guys. I always think 20-24 wrestlers are a good balance...add a couple of upper card teams and mid card teams to the mix.

About at least 8 male wrestlers ( 4 face 4 heel) , 4 tag teams (2 of each) and at least 4 females (2 of each) . Want to add some extra spice add manager (Repeat history if you want or just go with your gut feeling who they should manage) , talk show or/and commissioner . Hold tournaments or battle royals to give you your Champion . Any matches end in Double Dq or Dq or win by an illegal move or big upset lower rated wrestler beat a bigger one . Could use as a start of a feud . Just let the matches happen .
