Pro Football Hall of Famer, New York Jets great Don Maynard dies at age 86 Maynard played 15 seasons combined in the American and National Football Leagues between 1958 and 1973 with one season in the Canadian Football League. In his AFL-NFL career, he had 633 receptions for 11,834 yards, averaging 18.7 yards per catch with 88 touchdowns.

Carl Linhart, a former Detroit tiger in MLB passed away on January 4th. Linhart was signed by the Tigers out of high school in 1948. He made his brief MLB debut in August of 1952. He was used as a pinch runner and pinch hitter for three games by the Tigers. He played professional baseball in the minors from 1948-1956 but never made it back to the majors. at 92

Vicar of Dibley actor Gary Waldhorn dies aged 78 The actor played bullish councillor David Horton in every episode of the much-loved sitcom from 1994 to 2007. He most recently appeared in a Christmas special, The Vicar Of Dibley In Lockdown, alongside star Dawn French, who plays Rev Geraldine Granger, and James Fleet, who plays his on-screen son Hugo.

Phil Samis a former NHL defenceman passed away recently at the age of 94. Samis started out playing minor hockey in his hometown for the Edmonton Maple Leafs in 1943–44. The next season, he moved to Toronto to attend St. Michael's College and play for the St. Michael's Majors. He helped the team win the 1945 Memorial Cup. Along the way he played with future NHLers like Les Costello, Johnny McCormack, Jim Morrison, Gus Mortson, Tod Sloan and Jimmy Thomson. He was coached by Hockey Hall of Famer Joe Primeau. He will spend the next two seasons with the Oshawa Generals of the OHA. He turned professional in 1948 signing a contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was assigned to the Pittsburgh Hornets of the AHL. He was called up to the NHL for a playoff run that spring. He played 5 games for the Maple Leafs, helping them win the 1948 Stanley Cup. He was sent back to Pittsburgh at the start of the 1949 season. He did not return to the NHL until 1950 when he was called up for 2 games as an injury replacement. After that he spent the rest of his career playing in the AHL for the Pittsburgh Hornets and Cleveland Barons. He helped Cleveland win the Calder Cup in 1951. He retired from hockey in 1953. He briefly came out of retirement and played 1 season for the Montreal Royals of the QMHL.
