Pro Wrestling Illustrated News Byte - April 25, 2022

At a Press Conference hosted this morning by Pro Wrestling Illustrated's Bill Apter this morning it was announced that the Heroes Of Wrestling promotion was purchased by upstart World Class Wrestling Association headquartered out of Boston, MA and governed by the WCWA Board Of Directors. It will move from strictly PPV format to a weekly program broadcasted worldwide as well as monthly PPVs. The weekly program (called Heroes Of Wrestling Prime Time) will be hosted by Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan and will feature matches from different venues as well as interviews, press conferences, and misc. segments. Other changes made thus far is the installation of Teddy Long as commissioner and the release of commentator/interviewer Lance Russell. Russell's replacement is the newly acquired Gordon Solie (from Sooner State Wrestling).

If that news wasn't enough, there was another HUGE announcement. With the recent signings one name was kept under wraps until today. Bill Apter shocked the world when he brought out the newest WCW acquisition... KURT ANGLE! Angle siad he is happy to have arrived in WCWA and looks forward to the competition and has made clear his intention of going after the World Title (as of Press Conference time held by Brutus Beefcake). The first official Heroes Of Wrestling card under the WCWA banner is this weekend on May 2nd, 2022.

P.N. News was victorious in his debut against Nacho Barrera with a belly to belly suplex

Johnny Rodz spoiled the debut of Fit Finlay when he pinned him after a piledriver

-- Though he lost his debut match he had a great match with Rodz and it could've easily went either way. Gordon Solie interviewed Rodz after the match but was interrupted by Finlay who shook Rodz' hand and called him the better man today but he would love a no holds barred rematch next week. Rodz accepted!

WCWA TAG TITLE TOURNY RD 2

Bushwhackers defeated Buddy Rose & Doug Somers (w/ Sherri Martel) via RUNNING KNEE SMASH on Rose

-- Excellent tag match, it went long but was thoroughly entertaining and had the crowd into it. Rose & Somers came close several times but tonight just wasnt their night.

Powers of Pain (w/ Mr. Fuji) won by DQ over Too Cool when Brian Christopher smashed Warlord with a chair

"Superfly" Jimmy Snuka (w/ Capt Lou Albano) pinned The Iron Sheik (w/ Nikita Breznikov) after the SUPERFLY LEAP

The Killer Bees & Andre The Giant trounced The Samoan Squad when Andre pinned Alofa after the BIG SPLASH

-- Special appearance by Andre The Giant this week and he moved than evened the odds for the Bees against the Samoans!

Greg "The Hammer" Valentine (w/ Sherri Martel) regained the title from Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake(c) (w/ Candi Devine) after a turnbuckle roll up

-- The Hammer is now a 2 time World Champion!

Action packed weekend in Boston for Heroes Prime Time!

Highlights:

Jimmy Snuka petitioned Teddy Long for a World Title shot against Greg Valentine. Teddy approved! Later, The Champ confronted Teddy who didnt budge to Valentine's complaints. Instead Teddy told Valentine to find a tag partner cause he would be facing The Superfly and Snuka's choice of tag partner later in the night!

Fit Finlay says he's here to fight any and all comers!

Womens Champion Candi Devine was Roddy Piper's guest on Piper's Pit... she was sneak attacked by formee champ Sherri Martel! Piper tried to separate the two but he was assaulted by Buddy Rose! Eventually Piper and Devine started getting the upper hand causing Martel and Rose to make for higher ground. A mixed tag match has been signed for NEXT WEEK!

Rockin' Robin was assaulted backstage during an interview with Gordon Solie before her match with Tina Moretti. This gave Moretti the edge in their match and she quickly put Robin away. Moretti then got on the mich stating that ROBIN HAS BEEN CANCELLED before continuing a savage beating. Trish Stratus came to Robin's aud bit she was attacked by Nora Greenwald! Teddy Long has signed a TAG MATCH between these four NEXT WEEK!

Bill Apter was stopped backstage by Mr. Fuji.and The Powers of Pain who demanded a shot at the new Tag Champs! Teddy Long came out and told.them they would have to go through The Killer Bees first!

Disco Inferno pinned P.N. News after a ropes reversal... after the match Disco continued to put the boots to News and was joined by Jim Powers! After the beating News grabbed the mic and challenged Powers to a match NEXT WEEK!

Kurt Angle beat King Kon Bundy with a German Suplex in a quick match

Iron Sheik made George "The Animal" Steele submit to the CAMEL CLUTCH

Bill Apter spoke with Bruiser Costa. Costa kept going repeating that that everywhere needs to beware of the Róisín Dubh

World Class Wrestling Alliance - Heroes Prime Time

This week’s program saw matches that came about from last week’s program.

• Marty Janetty beat Bruiser Costa via DQ after a masked man wearing dark clothing with a black rose emblazoned on the chest attacked Janetty with a chair. The man unmasked himself to Gordon Solie as KEN DOANE! Doane announced that Roisin Dubh was here and that he was the first and there are more to come!!!

• Jim Powers (with Disco Inferno) beat P.N. News with the POWERSLAM. After the match Powers and Disco slapped News several times and destroyed his hat and sunglasses. Disco got on the mic proclaiming “RAP SUCKS! DISCO IS FOREVER!” as Jim Powers did his best Saturday Night Fever impression.

• Fit Finlay beat Big Bully Busick via DQ

• Rockin Robin & Trish Stratus beat Tina Moretti & Nora Greenwald when Robin pinned Moretti after the BULLDOG

• Meatball pinned Swoggle after a corner splash

• Kurt Angle made Baron Von Raschke submit to the ANKLE LOCK

• The Killer Bees persevered against The Powers of Pain in a hard hitting match that saw Jim Brunzell brutally double teamed through most of the match. Blair gets the hot tag mand manages to lock Warlord in the SLEEPER for the comeback victory.

• The Bolsheviks (with Nikita Breznikov) and the team of Hacksaw Duggan (substituting for an injured Patriot) & Marcus Bagwell battled to a wild double disqualification! Evenly fought battle that eventually the referee lost all control to when it spilled outside!

• In a mixed tag challenge match (from last week’s Piper’s Pit) Playboy Buddy Rose & Sherri Martel beat Womens Champion Candi Devine & Rowdy Roddy Piper via DQ when Piper laid Rose out with a foreign object! I doubt this one is far from over!

• WCWA World Champion Greg Valentine (with Sherri Martel) won by DQ over Superfly Jimmy Snuka when Snuka got tired of Valentine and Sherri’s antics and smashed the champ with a chair!

WCWA - HEROES PRIME TIME

Boston, MA

This episode started with Bill Apter interviewing WCWA World Champion Greg Valentine. Valentine wanted revenge on Superfly Snuka for the events of their title match last episode. Snuka came out.and accepted The Hammer's challenge! They will again at card #15 in 3 weeks!

Fit Finlay won by DQ over Bruiser Costa when Die Hard Eddie Edwards interfered and attacked Finlay. Edwards has been revealed to be the third.member of Roisin Dubh! Costa later stated there a more coming including The Master!

Bill Apter brought out the newly arrived Macho Man Randy Savage! Savage proclaimed that Macho Madness is going to run wild in the WCWA.and he is going to take on all comers on his way to the Gold!

Roddy Piper got the victory over Playboy Buddy Rose using a foriegn object! After the match Piper was joined by Ace Orton who helped Piper to pummel Rose! Piper then spoke to Gordon Solie stating that his hatred for Rose goes way back and that Orton is there to help even the odds!

The Iron Sheik handed Kurt Angle his first loss in WCWA with lots of help from Nikita Breznikov and the loaded boot! Angle dominated the match and hit the OLYMPIC SLAM multiple times as well as locking on the ANKLE LOCK. Breznikov smashed Angle with the flag pole and turned the tide in Sheik's favor. Sheik used the loaded boot several times before locking in the CAMEL CLUTCH to which Angle passed out from the pain.

The WCWA World Tag Champions Dipaulo & Rocca defeated The Killer Bees in a non title bout. After the match Gordon Solie caught up with The Champs. The interview was brief as Mr. Fuji and his Powers Of Pain interrupted demanding a title match! A melee ensued when Solie was shoved by Fuji and the four men brawled as the show went off the air.

In one of the most entertaining matches of the evening P.N. News and Scott Taylor beat the team of Disco Inferno and Jimmy Powers when News hit the BROKEN RECORD on Powers. Powers has now started to emulate Disco's appearance.

The Bolsheviks & Killer Kowalski were victorious over Stars & Stripes and Yukon Eric when Kowalski locked on the KOWALSKI CLAW on The Patriot.

SummerFest PPV Results

The Black Rose Clan (Killer Kowalski, Bruiser Costa, Ken Doane, & Eddie Edwards) & the team of Yukon Eric, Fit Finlay, & The Rockers V2.0 battle to a wild double disqualification when the referee lost complete control as it became an 8 man brawl that went all over the arena (multiple wrestlers and police had to regain control!)

Piper & Ace Orton put down Rose & Somers via Count Out when Piper bulldogged Somers on the concrete floor

Freddie Blassie defeated Randy Savage by referee stoppage when he viciously bloodied The Macho Man as he kept biting at his forehead over and over with his sharpened teeth.

Kurt Angle & The Patriot (with Hacksaw Duggan in their corner) defeated The Bolsheviks (with Nikita Breznikov)

Duggan was there to neutralize Breznikov but this didnt stop Baron Von Raschke from interfering! Raschke had nailed The Patriot but Duggan came to the rescue with 2x4 in hand and nailed Boris Zhukov upside the head allowing The Patriot to recover and get the win! The Bolsheviks and Breznikov blamed The Baron for the loss and assaulted him!

Candi Devine(c) retained the Womens Title against Trish Stratus

Curt Hennig won the vacant United States Title in the finals against Eddie Edwards.

Ilio DiPaulo & Antonino Rocca(c) successfully retained the WCWA Tag Titles against The Powers of Pain in a match that I feel stole the show!

The main event saw "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka defeat Greg "The Hammer" Valentine(c) for the WCWA World Title! Sensational Sherri Martel tried to interfere attempting to hit Snuka with the Belt, but Snuka grabbed her and she dropped the belt. Snuka tossed her out of the ring and then smashed Valentine with the Belt! Snuka followed with the SUPERFLY LEAP to win the Gold!

Great stuff. Blassie over Savage on a stoppage is wild, love the team of Angle and Patriot, and of course Superfly winning in the main event is excellent.
