All Stars of American Wrestling Week 26 From the WRAZ-TV Studios in Raleigh, NC
Match 1: Big Bully Busick Vs. Kenny Jay
Big Bully Busick finally found the win column after weeks of struggle, picking up a victory over the journeyman Kenny Jay in near record time! Busick picked up and slammed Jay right from the bell, quickly covering Jay and securing the much needed win.
Match 2: Too Cool Vs. The Moondogs
This was another fast match, though the Moondogs got in a lot more offense than the Sodbuster did. Too Cool’s speed was just too much for the Moondogs, who couldn’t keep a hold on Grand Master Sexay, who hit Rex with the Hip Hop Drop for the win.
After the match, Gordon Solie was joined in the interview area by Mr. Fuji and The Olympians: The Iron Sheik, Bob Roop, and former American champion Kurt Angle. Roop did most of the talking, saying that “Cowboy” Dick Hutton and The Patriot shouldn’t have gotten involved in last week’s title match. Roop said that he and Sheik would face Hutton and Patriot next week in a tag match and get revenge for Kurt Angle. Angle then took the microphone and said that he was envoking his right to a rematch. Angle threw down the gauntlet for new American champion Brisco to defend the title against him at the SummerFest!
Match 3: Brickhouse Brown Vs. Hugh Morrus
This was a fantastic, hard hitting match up with several near falls for both competitors. Morrus twice escaped Brown’s flying body press, and nearly forced Brown to submit to a modified scorpion deathlock, but when the action spilled out of the ring, Morrus lost his cool and slammed Brown into the timekeepers table, getting himself disqualified.
After the match, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan was joined in the ring by his very special guest, the International Wrestling Championship Council World Champion: Nick Bockwinkel. Traveling champion Bockwinkel, making his first appearance in ASAW since the promotion became an IWCC affiliate, proudly displayed the 11 pounds of gold to the fans in attendance at the studio. Bockwinkel boasted of having defended the title all over the world: from Leon Mexico to Ichinomiya Japan. From Quebec City in Montreal to Corpus Christi Texas. In Santiago Chile and in Belgrade Yugoslavia. Now, he was going to add Charlotte North Carolina to the list of cities where the humanoids had born witness to a real world’s champion, when he once again defeated Steve Williams at SummerFest.
Match 4: Dan Severn Vs. Redd Dogg
Dan “The Beast” Severn, who will challenge Dutch Savage for the Television championship next week, may have been looking past Redd Dogg, who’s win-loss record doesn’t reflect just what a tough opponent he can be. Dogg surprised Severn for a near fall by countering a sunset flip into a pinning combination of his own early in the match. That woke The Beast up, and Severn then proceeded to dismantle Redd Dogg with his trademark mix of grappling and mixed martial arts expertise. Redd Dogg managed to reach the ropes when Severn locked in the Choke Sleeper, but soon after Severn connected with the fireman’s carry slam and got the three count.
After the match, Severn pulled Redd Dogg to his feet and offered the tough competitor a handshake, which Redd Dogg refused.
Matchmaker Teddy Long then came out, carrying two hats, which he set on the broadcast table. With Monsoon holding the microphone, Long announced it was time for the draw for the first ever Women’s All-Star Cup tournament. Drawing names from alternating hats, he announced that the first round match ups would be: Candi Divine Vs. Rockin’ Robin, Tessa Blanchard Vs. Kylie Rae, Leilani Kai Vs Trish Stratus, and Jazz Vs. Nora Greenwald. That last match, Nora Vs. Jazz would be the first match in the tournament and would happen in just two weeks!
Match 5: The New Rockers Vs. The Long Riders
The New Rockers are starting to find the win column consistently, in six man and singles action at least. Now they’ve got the W in tag team action again. The happy-go-lucky duo bested the Irwin brothers in a very even match up. Marty survived a flurry of offense from Hog Irwin, then connected with a superkick for a near fall. In the end, Jannetty used the Rocker Dropper to get the win!
Match 6: Jim Brunzell Vs. Big Van Vader (With Jim Cornette)
Vader has looked unstoppable lately, with impressive, one-sided victories over Tommy Rich and Bob Backlund. Jim Brunzell though has proven to be a tough and gutsy competitor, so fans were ready for anything. Brunzell came out hot, even scoring a quick near fall with his high flying drop kick! Vader took over and started brutalizing Brunzell with moves like his running avalanche and bone-crunching splash. The action spilled out of the ring where the two fought to a double countout that disappointed the crowd.
After the match, the two continued brawling. Vader had Brunzell set up for a devastating powerbomb on the concrete studio floor when Bob Backlund rushed out from the back with a chair and chased the Mastodon of Camp Cornette off.
Match 7: “Wildfire” Tommy Rich Vs. Austin Idol
Rich, back from injury and looking strong, was rolling to victory of Idol, but the referee, perhaps a little on edge because of the out of the ring brawl from the previous match, disqualified Rich when he whipped Idol into the ring post.
Main Event Tag Team Championship Match Tugboat & Chaz Taylor Vs. Champions “Playboy” Buddy Rose & “Pretty Boy” Doug Somers
It looked like this was going to be a fast victory for the challengers, as Tugboat hit the Anchor Drop very quickly out of the gate on Somers. Rose made the save though and the battle continued. The champs isolated and worked over the big man, trying to cut off his oxygen with grinding holds and clubbing blows. When Tugboat made the hot tag to Chaz though, the pace ratchetted up quickly. Chaz nailed Somers with Air Chaz for a near fall! Then, the young Taylor used the Chaztizer. Rose came in trying to make the save, but was cut off by Tugboat. The referee made the count and the Taylors captured the tag team titles for the first time! #AndNew

I don’t comment much on people’s feds, even if I read them consistently, but I wanted to give you a shout out. I love the bite-sized recaps you use—just enough information to provide a feel for the match without bogging it down with every headlock and arm bar.
And needless to say, I love the booking. Really, really first rate.
