The year Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points against the lowly Knicks, he averaged 50 per game over the entire season. Wilt was a phenomenal athlete, but Bill Russell completely owned him. Wilt had his issues to be sure, but I've always thought the "Russell owned him" stuff was overblown. Celtics clearly had better teams during most of their time together in the league. Plus Russell's role in Boston was different than Wilt's in Philadelphia. I think Wilt showed that when he wasn't being a selfish, stat-minded player (probably only 2-3 years of his career), he could do much of what Russell did. However, I'm not sure Russell could have done what Wilt did had the roles been reversed. In Wilt's 50 PPG year you referenced, he averaged 42-28-2 (12 games) to Russell's 19-25-4 (10 games) in head to head play during the regular season. In the playoffs, was 34-27-3 Wilt to 22-26-4 Russell in the 7 game Celtics win. Whatever side of the argument people are on, they are clearly two of the NBA's greatest players ever.

Across a decade of competition and more than 140 games, Bill's teams won 60 percent and Wilt's won 40 percent. I can't think of another rivalry so lopsided in the most important stat of them all. The main reason Bill's teams were so superior is that he was at the literal and figurative center of those teams. You can trust a native Bostonian such as yours truly to be totally objective on this issue. 😉

Just got around to start listening. The first time Sam seems to nearly gotten the muzzle has me hoping for Mordecai/Kevin Thorn getting a card.

I got 5 hours of sleep last night and struggled to get the motivation to go to the gym this morning. I made it there, but you guys talking about your WM 4 bootleg set kept me alert and helped me get through my workout! I had seen the set online a few times but to hear what went into the stats was super cool! Now I want to get the set and play it just so Savage can beat Steamboat in a rematch and then top Chump Hogan for the title win in the finals! Nice work guys!
