My cousin runs a pool every year. I got the bracket but still haven’t filled it out. I have until 11. I feel like just gambling on select games is the new hotness. Why watch your bracket bust in 24 hours when you make money betting on the heavy favs? I may throw some money down on a few games and skip the bracket. We’ll see how much time and energy I find this morning. Yeah, I think this was the first time I actually filled out a bracket since I was an undergraduate in the late 1990s. Normally I do something similar to what you are saying and just place a bet on a team to win the tournament. Next year, unless I get approached by somebody again to fill out a bracket like this year, I will probably just do the sportsbook option for the NCAA Tournament. |

Today I went 11-5.
Thankfully I only had Kentucky reaching the Sweet Sixteen and so far only 1 other of my picked Sweet Sixteen teams have been eliminated.
Looking forward to seeing how the remainder of the First Round goes tomorrow.

I was looking at the scoreboard for the brackets in my friend's tournament group over on Yahoo's Fantasy Sports.
The bad news is I am only in 5th place. The good news however is that 3 of the 4 people ahead of me all had Kentucky and Iowa advancing to the Elite Eight and I did not have Iowa advancing past the second round and I did not have Kentucky advancing past the Sweet Sixteen. Of the games played today, 6 of the 8 teams I picked to make the Sweet Sixteen are still alive and the other two teams I did not pick past the Sweet Sixteen. So I definitely have a chance to make up some points.

Just a reminder why I don't bother with these anymore that said....awesome win by St. Peter's and beating Kentucky makes it so much sweeter.

I do 3 brackets per year. 5 bucks per bracket
Bracket 1 is Michigan and Michigan State going as far as they can with Michigan winning. Usually one of them gets knocked out early while the other goes pretty far, so I have a vested interest throughout the tourney.
Bracket 2 is who I actually think will win. This never pans out, haha.
Bracket 3 is nothing but coin flips. Now, in my pool, the lowest scoring bracket (out of about 600) wins their 5 bucks back. I have achieved this 3 times with my coin flip bracket. It's become a running joke but I wear the badge with pride!
Remember a few years back when UMBC upset Virginia in the first round? My coin flip bracket was the ONLY ONE (again, out of about 600) that picked UMBC. It was hilarious!
However, this year, my coin flips determined that...MICHIGAN WOULD WIN! I can't make this stuff up, people! LOL.
I also make a few actual bets, parlays, etc. Just for fun.

Kentucky deserved to lose that game, but Oscar Tshiebwe didn't (30 points and 16 boards). The rest of the team played like a JV team of a division II high school. Nobody could hit water if they fell out of a boat, it was a pathetic performance, except for Tshiebwe. At least they tore my heart out early this year and didn't make me suffer long. Bounced by a 15 seeds.... DAMN! stu, I now know your and Virginia's pain. Been there Kevin...and oh yea, it hurts. For my bracket this year, I did pick them to win it all, and who in the world would've thought they'd lose to St. Peter's?? And that's exactly what I was asking 4 years ago...who in the world would've thought Virginia would fall to UMBC?  ?? It's the agony of sports. It's also what makes this tournament glorious, but when its your team...not so much! |

I correctly predicted #11 Iowa State over #6 LSU! Congrats to Chad Olson on Iowa State's victory! Last Summer, on the ride from Waterloo to Des Moines, Chad drove me through the campus of Iowa State where he works at. Overall today I have only lost two games as there have not been alot of upsets today and one of the upsets that did happen with Iowa State winning is one that I had on my bracket. |

Overall today I went 13-3 and went from 5th place to a tie for 3rd place.
Some good news is that the guy in the lead actually picked Seton Hall, who was eliminated tonight by TCU, all the way to the Elite Eight so there are now two more games he is not winning for sure.
At the moment, 13/16 of my Sweet Sixteen picks are still alive and all of my Elite Eight picks, Final Four picks, and Finals picks are still alive so I still have alot of chances to add to my score.
