I enjoyed listening to this week's episode of Roll Up with its Promoter Spotlight on Thomas (TK). TK is very creative with his COTG bootlegs and I enjoyed meeting him and his son Marcus last Summer in Waterloo. I also agree with what TK said about his meeting with Jay Lethal as Lethal has always been really cool the few times I have met him at ROH shows. I thought AJ Styles was fine too (Styles told me it would be $10 to autograph his ROH card and then when he realized I had both versions of his card he said he would only charge me $10 total to autograph both cards which I thought was cool) but I have only met Styles very briefly that one time. As for the NBA, Kevin Durant remains my favorite player but I am not a Nets fan (and even less of a Kyrie Irving fan.) I was able to order online a copy of The Sheik's book Blood and Fire and it cost me about $16 plus shipping, but it won't arrive until sometime between May 15th-May 20th. It will likely be the next wrestling book I read once I finish Mad Dog Vachons's book. I am looking forward to being on next week's episode of Roll Up as part of the Indy panel about the masked Indy wrestlers in the game that was announced at the end of this episode.

Warmed this old hoops fart's heart Sam Fain to hear you've caught the basketball bug! I love that! The level of talent in today's game is incredible. Even though I prefer the game of the '80s (more low post play, a bit more balance in offense), I can't deny how talented today's player is. And the games, certainly in the playoffs, deliver! Glad you're liking Simmons' book too, its a classic (okay, so that's probably hyperbole, but I'm a fan daggone it! ) in the basketball genre at least. And Simmons is so irreverant, the humor in it is also appreciated. Great episode, great to hear from Thomas (TK) as well!

I only had one question throughout this pod: Did Thomas (TK) wear pants for the Zoom call?

The Magic didn't select Penny over Webber... They chose Webber with the first pick and then traded him to the Warriors for their third pick, Penny, and Future draft choices including a #1 pick which had never been done before.

They chose Webber with the first pick and then traded him to the Warriors for their third pick, Penny, and Future draft choices including a #1 pick which had never been done before. @kevinb, the Magic only selected Webber at the bequest of Golden State. It's the same difference. If you read the book that trade only happens if the Magic agree to it, and that's the gist of it. The footnote explains, in a very humorous way that it was an idiotic decision, and that even if the strength of that Penny Hardaway workout included him making three-pointers form half court on his knees while doing other things *censored for kids*, even then there is no way you pick Hardaway over Webber in that draft, none. They did in fact choose Hardaway over Webber, because that's who they ended up with. The only way Webber goes to the Warriors is if the Magic agree to the trade. They did, and thus, they chose Penny over Webber. They wanted Hardaway, and if things ran in the NBA like it does in the NFL draft, the swap would have occurred before-hand, kind of like the Fultz-Ball-Tatum NBA draft, where Boston had the #1 Pick, hated the two guards, fell in love with Tatum, and traded back to 3 with Philly before the draft and netted the best player in the draft. It did happen before, including 1980, when the draft rights for McHale, and Robert Parish went to the Celtics for the draft rights to Joe Barry Carroll, and the player Ricky Brown on draft night. It also happened in 1987 when the Sonics traded the draft rights to Scottie Pippen to the Bulls for the draft rights of Olden Polynice and a first and second round pick (really similar to the draft-day trade for Hardaway and Webber. Lastly, it happened when the draft rights to the greatest center of all time, Bill Russell, were traded by Atlanta to the Boston Celtics for Cliff Hagan and Ed McCauley.
