A sport of the future...but what is Gravity Ball?
Blitzball (Final Fantast X) , Football (NFL Earth) , Quidditch (Harry Potter) , Future Sport (FS Movie). Dodgeball?
I uses Blitzball when describing it in the past, but what is it? How is it played? stars in GWF, GWFZ, NDW and many bootleg sets have been players, so What do you all say?

Like the NFL. Just takes place in the future.

Yeah I always pictured Gravity Ball as what the NFL morphed into as they expanded cosmically! (though, its a much rougher game ala NFL from the 60s-80s).
But I didn't stop there, I also mention the UHL (Ultra Hockey League) as they also expanded across the universe ect.
and let's not forget Roller Ball/ Roller Derby let's just say its huge on other planets and galaxies lol
It's always a lot cooler to have GWF/FTR guys come up from those pro leagues and mentioning them in write ups makes the wrestler feel more legit as an athlete

Gravity ball takes place entirely above the field. Players can fly 20 yards up or down from the line of scrimmage. If your feet touch ground or you go higher than 20 yards, that's out of bounds. Lateral and forward passed allowed by any player in control of the ball. Scoring only by flying the ball past the goal line or a forward pass to a player behind the goal line.
On defense the object is to intercept the pass, hit the ball carrier hard enough that he loses possession, or drive him to the ground below to force a turnover.
No kickers, no punting, all roughness is necessary.

I've always seen it as this:
It takes place on an oiled steel field, and players wear heavy duty protective gear and wheel-less roller skates that hover just above the ground (like the land speeder in Star Wars). The ball is basically like a steel shot-put, but with a variable density core that allows its weight to increase and decrease as the game goes on. There are a series of lights on the ball that flash when it is about to go from light, to average, to heavy.
A team scores by slamming, tossing, or dropping the "ball" into a hole in the wall. After each score, a time out is called to allow for substitutions. Otherwise, there are no time outs allowed and no game-stoppage except for an injury on the playing surface. The ball is "live" at all times, except for these limited stoppages in play.
There are also curved gravity wells scattered here and there on the playing surface. The goal is to hit one of these with one of your "skates" and it accelerates you along the curve (and out the other end) feaster than anyone can skate up to catch you. These are used for scoring drives or devastating tackles. As far as hits and tackles are concerned, anything goes--there are no penalties.
Strategy involves using the gravity wells to your advantage and timing the weight-changes of the ball. When it is light, go for a long pass to a teammate further down the court. When it is about to go heavy, chuck at a nearby opponent and knock him for a loop when the ball shifts from, say, two pounds to eight pounds. Use the walls of the arena like a halfpipe to avoid defenders, jump, slide, skid--whatever it takes to take an opponent out so your teammates can make the play. It's played in three ten-minute periods, with a no-time limit overtime in the event of a tied game.
I have a more detailed explanation written up somewhere, but those are the highlights.

Since it was what I'd watched around the time Quasar came out, I always thought of Gravity Ball being similar to Powerball from American Gladiators youtu.be/29y3RjqKc0o

I always thought of it as what the NFL evolved into in the future. Same, considering Quasar was loosely inspired by Bo Jackson and Overtime was originally inspired by Terrell Owens. But I love reading all the theories about what the league evolved into.

But I love reading all the theories about what the league evolved into. ......... NFL was out of existence by 2043. New rules where they weren't allowed to tackle anyone making over 3 million per year killed it. Don't get me started on the required social engineering and compliance camps. The re-formed LFL, or "X League" as it were, (FAR superior league now and in the future) took over after that until gravity ball came around. The founder of the league bucked all the trends, brought smash mouth sports back, and reaped the rewards.
