Royal Wrestling Alliance Proudly part of the World Territory Wrestling Alliance
Pro-Wrestling This Week brought to you in partnership with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation with hosts Gordon Solie and Bill Apter
Last month we brought to you the somewhat shocking announcement that Frank Tunney acquired primary ownership and would be re-vamping the RWA. The RWA had been drawing fairly decent crowds, but many feel it had become rather stagnant in talent and match quality. Tunney said he would be bringing in a lot of new talent and shaking things up. Boy Howdy, he did. A new beautiful title was brought out and a tourney was announced. Something else announced was a desire to bring the RWA to all of Canada, rather than just structured in Toronto. Now, we are ready to go with a new and improved RWA!!
This week we'll focus solely on some of the first round action for that tournament to crown a new RWA Heavyweight Champion. These are some of the highlights from The Coliseum in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia.
Opening Match - Block B "wrestle in" match: S.D. Jones defeats Mike Jackson - * 1/2 S.D. looks pretty good and dominates Jackson w/ a devastating head butt.
Block A first round matches Nikolai Volkoff defeats Sputnik Monroe - *** Fans were very excited to see Sputnik after hearing his progressive interviews leading into the match. However, they were left unhappy after Volkoff put Monroe away after three backbreaker drops and booed the singing of the Soviet national anthem. Making Volkoff very angry. Pretty good long match though.
Red Bastien over comes Butcher Vachon - ** Long wear down match starts to spill outside the ring and those questionable fisticuffs lead to Bastien's Atomic Drop getting him the win. After the match tempers flared and it brings Mad Dog Vachon and Billy Red Lyons. Lots of pushing and shoving.
Pat Patterson wrecks JJ Dillon - 1/2 star Dillon was booed and took offense. Started running down hockey and Vancouver bringing Patterson angry to the ring. Pretty quick match ended with a strong punch.. was that a legal punch?
Block B first round matches Ivan Koloff losses to Baron Von Raschke - * 1/2 Fans were not sure who to cheer and who to boo. The Baron controls much of the match and comes out on top w/ a rough back suplex
Doctor X falls to Killer Khan - ** Fans again are unsure who to cheer for (or who Doctor X is) but turn to X as Mr. Fuji accompanies Khan. X is in control much of the match, but Khan flips the whole match on its head and drops a top rope knee drop on X's head for the win. Was Fuji involved in that turn of fortune? It certainly looked like it to me. After the match, X pushes Khan and punches Fuji leading to a huge fight that goes all the way to the back.
Don Leo Jonathan SQUASHES S.D. Jones ! Though SD does get a warm welcome, Jonathan gets a huge pop coming to the ring. Four total moves later Jonathan gets his hand raised. Due to a little extra time, I ran down to the ring and interviewed Jonathan in the ring. Here a little sound of that interview and what happened after: DLJ: "...and I'll be attempting to defend and make my adopted and loved country of Canada proud. It would be a huge honor to make it through and become the new RWA heavyweight champion. I'm so happy to be here and be with you my fellow...." Mr. Fuji: "Ha... you Canadian fool! Nothing you say or do will matter. This federation is only for my monsters!" With that, from out of the crowd, come Gorilla Monsoon, Killer Khan and Gorge The Animal Steele. As he is surrounded and Don Leo sees the situation knowing he is about to get destroyed.... Pat Patterson hits the ring running and scares off the monsters.
That's all the action from last week in Vancouver. Next week we'll bring you first round matches in Montreal - if you are there, you can go live on Saturday night!! Ticket information coming in the break. here is that run down of those matches: Block D - Thunderbolt Patterson vs. Mark Lewin - Yukon Eric vs. The Spoiler - Mad Dog Vachon vs. Billy Red Lyons Block C Wrestle in Match - Iron Mike Sharpe vs. Nacho Barrera - Bad News Allen vs. Gorilla Monsoon - Killer Kowalski vs. George Steele - Winner of Wrestle In vs. Alexis Smirnoff
Next week Bill Apter will have an exclusive interview with Stan Stasiak. Thanks Folks.
(I'll have some notes on this fed later. Just was really excited to get the first part of my first round tourney posted. -- Matt)

Royal Wrestling Alliance
Welcome to another episode of ProWresling This Week. I'm Gordon Sole with Bill Apter at my side. Tonight we are bringing you all of last week's exciting first round tournament action from the Royal Wrestling Alliance's tournament to crown a new champion. All of tonight's matches took place at a filled to the brim Montreal Forum in Montreal Quebec, but first, Bill had a sit down interview with one of the wrestlers who had a by in the first round, Stan Stasiak.
Stasiak Interview In it he toes the line between angry heel and proud hero. Heels he has something to prove and wants the home country crowd to be happy with his performance. Puts the entire RWA on notice. Even if he can't take the big belt, he'll be a force to be reckoned with.
BLOCK C First Round Matches "Wrestle In" Match Iron Mike Sharpe beats Nacho Barrera - * Sharpe is cheered heavily as he comes out. Pretty good match for only one star. Nacho got some legit offense in. Sharpe locks in the Bearhug and that was it. Post match interview sees Iron Mike cutting a great promo about trying to go all the way and win the belt, but Alexis Smirnoff walks through the shot, bumps Sharpe and acting like an ass.
Bad News Allen and Gorrilla Monsoon Double Disqualification Match wasn't very long but had been outside the ring three times before the eventual double DQ. After that a massive melee trashes ringside. This is headed for much more.
Killer Kowalski over George Steele - **1/2 Huge crowd response for Kowalski. Long match and Kowalski looks really good. Steele endures mounds of pin attempts and his manager, Mr. Fuji, is eventually ejected from the ring in one of his interference attempts. Fuji beats Steele with his cane on the out of the arena.
Alexis Smirnoff upset by Iron Mike Sharpe - * 1/2 Super Shocker! Iron Mike comes out of the turnbuckle w/ a top rope neck snap and into a quick pin. Smirnoff is pissed. Sharpe is drowned in cheers and slips from the ring quick standing tall.
BLOCK D Mad Dog Vachon tops Billy Red Lyons - *** back and forth match. Red Bastien distracts the ref and Dick Woehrle gets irritated and boots both Bastien and Butcher Vachon. However, while this is happening mad Dog takes advantage and hits his pile driver for the win. Both tag partners aren't even to the back and everyone starts brawling.
Mark Lewin losses to Thunderbolt Patterson - 1/2 star Thunderbolt makes it look easy in near squash. Had a counter for every move Lewin tried. The two shake after match.
Yukon Eric over The Spoiler - ** Eric is treated like a hero by the crowd. Comes to ring with his "manager" Terrible Ted the wrestling bear. Somewhat quick but decent match. Spoiler tries to jump Eric after match, but Ted steps in front of Eric and Spoiler chooses wisely, backing down.
Next week on ProWrestlling this Week: We've got a Huge double sized episode with Second round action in Ottawa between Mike Sharpe and Killer Kowalski, Mad Dog Vachon versus Yukon Eric and Thunderbolt Patterson vs The Crippler, who had a by in the first round. Also a big feud match between Butcher Vachon and Billy Red Lyons, these two tag teams are locked in continuing fisticuffs. Guessing referees will have their hands full here. Also, we'll talk to Bad News Allen about that mess of a match this week against Gorrilla Monsoon. SGT Slaughter will be in studio. That's all in hour one. In hour two we see Block B matches between Don Leo Jonathan and Killer Khan, Dick the Bruiser and Baron Von Raschke. Block A matches with Stasiak facing Volkoff and Patterson taking on Red Bastien.
Hope you'll join us. Thanks Folks.

Royal Wrestling Alliance
ProWrestling This Week with Gordon Solie and SGT Slaughter sitting in for Bill Apter We have some fantastic action for you tonight from the Ottawa Civic Center. This is the first of the quarter-finals in the RWA's march towards crowning a new champion. We'll also have an interview with Bad News Allen, or should I say we tried to get an interview with Bad News. We'll bring you that disaster later, but before that... SGT Slaughter is here and in studio and will his comments on the week's matches, especially the winner of the Iron Mike Sharpe versus Killer Kowalski match as that is whom he will face.
Opening Matches SD Jones Major Squash of Nacho Barrera Two Moves!! A series of jabs followed by a devastating Head Butt. Nacho is helped from the ring. SGT: That was some head butt. Impressive. SD is a good American kid. I like him. Butcher Vachon losses feud match to Billy Red Lyons- *** Tag partners were barred from ringside. Good match. Butcher dominated early but a failed deathjump leads to a strong comeback by Lyons and eventually to his figure four leglock finisher. SGT: Lyons tried to mend fences after the match and end the feud. Can't abide that. kind of weakness. Must be his Canadian upbringing. Butcher slaps the hand away and a melee ensues.
Bad News Allen interview that wasn't. Just as he is about to start speaking Mr. Fuji interrupts and starts in on him not being able to withstand the force that is his Gorilla. Bad News is pissed at being interrupted and before he can utter more than "Fool! No one interrupts..." Monsoon is on him and they are brawling all around the backstage area.
Block C Iron Mike Sharpe is squashed by Killer Kowalski Both shake hands before in a show of honor. Then Kowalski destroys Sharpe's Cinderella hopes pretty quickly, ending it with a Stomach Claw. KK helps Mike up and walks with him to the back. SGT: I'm beginning to think I'll either dominate this federation or throw up from all this kindness and "honor." There are some wrestlers that are going to need some seriousness beat into them. Kowalski is first in line and in two weeks, that puke is done. Then I'm getting that Canadian title and I'm bringing it back to a real country. I'm going to get ready right now.
Block D Mad Dog Vachon over Yukon Eric - ** really thought this would be a better match, but Mad Dog acts like his namesake and keeps Eric from any real offense in the match. Three Piledrivers and some outside the ring shenanigans will win you a lot of matches.
Thunderbolt Patterson nearly over The Crusher - **** Best match of the tournament so far. The match was so long that (I had to pause it, go to work and come back) the ref granted more time to finish it. The first half was mostly Patterson and the second saw The Crusher slowly come back and start wearing down Patterson (with plus ones) until he secured the win with the Crusher Bolo. Both wrestlers show the code of honor after the match and the crown applauds both.
That's all the time we have for this week. Nest we'll see Don Leo Jonathan vs. Killer Khan Dick the Bruiser vs. Baron Von Raschke Stan Stasiak vs. Nikolai Volkoff and Pat Patterson vs. Red Bastien All in quarter final match ups. You better make sure you join us. Thanks for watching everybody.
Some Notes on my fed: I have been playing this game since late 1988 or early 89 (with a significant break brought on by collage in the early 90's and a loss of interest, and of my cards, in the late 90's.) I got back into it in the 2000's as a distraction from life's rather tough times.
When I started back up, it was with CotG and "continued" my fed from my childhood. Then I started running a bunch of different LoW feds with official as well as boots to give my CotG fed a "lost to history" origin of galactic pro-wrestling. (Amazing what the archaeologists on Earth are finding. New VHS? tapped matches every day!) So, it was a history and territory centered system... Which grew... and grew. It now includes Early (which is two small sets, pre 1900 and pre-WW1,) The Golden Age (between WW1 and WW2) Silver Age (1945 through 1960 or so,) The Bronze Age (Late 60's to late 70's) and Platinum Age (the glorious 1980's.) I have a Modern fed that doesn't get played very often and two Champions feds that need more love.
All my feds are the Royal Wrestling Alliance and all historically connected. When I talked to Brian about this league, I thought what a better way to get me to roll out one of these. I decided, looking at what wrestlers were already taken, the 70's were a good choice. I'm going to try and only use wrestlers from who were active at least some in the 70's and it'll - more or less - take the place of my Bronze age fed. Look what the archaeologists found from this great place called... Canada!
ProWrestling This Week, as you may know, was an actual syndicated show hosted by Gordon Solie. Chad Olsen suggested it as an excellent idea for a way to present a territory based fed. In regards to my fed, it'll be, at least one of its episodes each week, a show with highlights from last week's exciting RWA action. Not sure yet on titles or where I'm going with it, but this is the most excited I've been creating a fed in this game in some time. Thanks Brian!

Royal Wrestling Alliance
Pro-Wrestling This Week with your hosts Gordon Solie and Bill Apter On our program we have some great from the RWA's second night of quarter final matches. All of tonight's action came from a jam packed Metro Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Let's get right to the action.
Opening Contests: The Bolsheviks (Smirnoff & Koloff) beat Bill and Randy Mulkey - SQUASH! The young up and coming team of the Bill and Randy got nearly no offense in. Is a Red menace on the rise in the RWA?
Mike Jackson falls to JJ Dillon - * 1/2 Not much offense from Jackson. After the match, in a despicable display, Dillon puts the boots to the downed Jackson. The crowd is not impressed.
Moving on to MUCH better matches.... Block B Quarter Finals Don Leo Jonathan outlasts Killer Khan - **** Insanely long match not helped by Mr. Fuji's timely and frequent interference. After the match there is a HUGE ovation for the Mormon Giant.
Baron Von Raschke brutalized by Dick the Bruiser - ** Arnold Skaaland spotted watching near ringside. The Baron had plenty of opportunities, but couldn't capitalize. Bruiser wore the Baron down and eventually dropped the knee from the top rope. After the match, Bill Apter, who was at the arena, caught up with Skaaland. BA: Your managing prowess is unparalleled in the sport of Pro-Wrestling. Are you interested in someone? AS: Bill, I'm merely here watching the matches. However, there are a few people who might just... Interrupted by Dick the Bruiser coming back from the ring. AS: Bruiser! Looked fantastic out there... can we talk. Both walk away together. BA: I think those actions answer the question all by itself.
Block A Quarter Finals Stan Stasiak falls to Nikolai Volkoff - * Pretty Quick. Could be called an upset. Very little Stasiak offense. Volkoff finishes it with two backbreaker drops. Fans not real happy about the playing of the Soviet National Anthem. Volkoff not happy about the booing. NV: I come to country to compete in your tournament. I give no reason to get such treatment. Russians would never disrespect like this. I say to you all, never poke bear.
Pat Patterson tops Red Bastien - ***1/2 Both men greeted with huge cheers. Both men shake before. Grueling wear down offense from Patterson, as Bastien keeps kicking out of everything thrown at him. Lots of outside the ring action and things get a bit heated. Eventually, Patterson slaps on the Boston Crab for the win. Bastien declines the code of honor after the match.
Fantastic action this week. So, what do we have to look forward to in next week's Semi-Finals: Block C - SGT Slaughter finally gets in the ring with Killer Kowalski Block D - The Crusher faces Mad Dog Vachon. Sure to be a sloberknocker Block A - Dick the Bruiser faces off against Don Leo Jonathan Block B - Pat Patterson against consistently impressive Nikolai Volkoff also JJ Dillon, Thunderbolt Paterson and Killer Khan will be in action. and.... I've just been handed a cryptic note saying that The eighth wonder of the world is coming. that can only mean one man. I don't know if the RWA can handle, if this isn't misleading, that truly impressive wrestler. Thanks folks. See you next week.

Royal Wrestling AlliancePro-Wrestling This Week with Gordon Solie and Bill Apter Coming from The Omni in lovely Calgary, Alberta, Canada Some big Semi-Final action from last week. Opening Matches: Thunderbolt Patterson & Sputnik Monroe defeats George Steele & Killer Khan - ** Thunderbolt was beat down pretty bad and Sputnik came in and laid three Neckbreakers and Mr. Fuji trying every kind of dirty trick, to pick up the win. JJ Dillon beats down Nacho Barrera - * Not a squash, but close. Dillon was booed vociferously on entering the arena. Dillon starts in on Barrera and the match lasts longer than expected. After the win, Dillon puts the boots to Barrera after. He is about to drop an elbow drop from the top rope and Iron Mike Sharpe comes out to run him off and see to his friend. Dillon laughs as he lights up a cigar and walks through the curtain. Block C SGT Slaughter is upset by Killer Kowalski - ** Kowalski looks really good and though it takes a bit to put him away, Slaughter is finally dispatched with little overall offense. As Kowalski is having his hand raised, Slaughter double axe handles him from behind and screams at Kowalski that this was a fluke and he'll see him in the future. The crowd boos. Block D The Crusher eventually pins Mad Dog Vachon - ** 1/2 Butcher Vachon is booted from ringside early in the match. Lengthy but somewhat lopsided match actually. Feud Match Bad News Allen Disqualified versus Gorilla Monsoon - *** Very Long Match. Lots and Lots of out of the ring fighting. Eventually, Bad News gets fed up w/ Fuji's interference and puts him into the crowd, bringing Monsoon after. Bad News is waiting and smashes him with a chair and again. Khan and Steele comes out and Bad News has to hold them off and make it to the back. Block B Pat Patterson over Nikolai Volkoff - * Very unimpressive showing from Volkoff. Patterson never lets him get in more than a single blow or two. Block A Dick The Bruiser upset by Don Leo Jonathan - *** 1/2 Really good match. Ends in a roll up (roll of 3) Bruiser is shocked and disappointed. Crowd is very happy. No Skaaland at ringside for Bruiser, but appears after the match and walks with him through the curtain. All the action for this week. Next week we'll crown a new Royal Wrestling Heavyweight Champion in Toronto. The Tournament will see Crusher versus Kowalski and Patterson versus Jonathan. One of these men will be crowned. Also, Commissioner Frank Tunney has ordered a re-match to the ever growing feud between Monsoon and Allen. However, the new commissioner didn't put any stipulations. This could be a mistake. Something is going to be needed as a standard ring or standard match won't contain these two. We'll also see the major feud tag match between The Vachon's and the Flying Redheads (Lyons and Bastien.) Thanks all, see you next week.
