Red Bastien defeated “Mr Electricity” Steven Regal with a flying body press and pin. This match was over quickly as Regal looked outclassed by the veteran Bastien. Red looked good in his win.
Buddy Rose & Doug Somers defeated The Long Riders to get their first win. This was a solid effort by both teams, but Rose surprised Bill Irwin with a jumping back elbow and got the pinfall. The Irwin brothers argued with each other in the ring as Rose & Somers made their way to the locker room area.
Stan Hansen defeated Ricky Morton with his Brazos Valley backbreaker. Hansen, who is bigger and stronger than Morton, used high impact moves to ground the quicker Morton. Morton had no answer for the punches, stomps and clotheslines he received. Hansen dominated this match from start to finish.
Contract signing: In the ring, Bob Backlund and Curt Hennig met to sign the contract for the AWA World Heavyweight Title match next week. After the contract was signed, both men shhok hands. As they were leaving the ring, Larry Zbyszko appeared ar ringside and began bad-mouthing both Backlund and Hennig... “You two make me sick. Ooooh... they shook handa. Give me a break. You are both chumps. I got a partner tonight. How about we show the fans who the REAL championship contenders are?”
In the Main Event, Bob Backlund & Curt Hennig defeated Larry Zbyszko & Mad Dog Vachon via disqualification after a wild brawl outside the ring. This was a long and brutal match that spilled to the ringside area. Mad Dog was DQ'd when he rammed Backlund's head into the guard rail. Both Hennig and Backlund worked well together and gave a preview of what fans will see next week.
Next week, Bob Backlund vs Curt Hennig for the AWA Heavyweight Title PLUS Bockwinkel & Stevens vs The Vachons for the AWA Tag Team Titles. Don't you dare miss it!
