With the departure of some high-profile names this year, I am looking to start my personal COTG Hall of Fame for my color card fed in the near future.
In your opinion, how long should a wrestler be gone from a fed before they are eligible to be inducted into a fed's wrestling Hall of Fame?
There is always the chance that some inducted wrestlers might return to action but that happens in real life too with Edge being an example.
Speaking of Edge, it only took 1-year from his initial retirement in 2011 to get inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Eddie Guerrero took even less time but that was after his sudden and tragic death 5-6 months earlier. Do you think those inductions were too early?
Looking forward to hearing feedback on this topic, thanks in advance for any thoughts offered in reply!

Yeah, one year. If they're worthy there's no denying them. Someone can educate me on the reason for the "five year rule" in other halls of fame, but I think in any kind of wrestling hall you can break that.

My guess is the 5-year rule is partly to make sure one's view on an athlete is not clouded by emotion of them retiring and partly to leave things open just in case they decide to unretire and come back.

When I was running my canon post-2119 fed, I'm pretty sure 3 years was my rule... And that's the only HoF I've ever started... Seems reasonable to me!

I know baseball has that 5-year rule and I remember back in the early 1990s Jim Palmer attempted a comeback with the Baltimore Orioles even after being inducted into the Hall of Fame, so he had been retired for like 6 or 7 years at that point. There was a famous quote where someone during that Spring Training comeback attempt told him he would never get into the Hall of Fame pitching like how he was pitching at that time and Pamer told the guy he was already in the Hall of Fame lol. I remember Palmer's comeback attempt was not successful and he was not on the Opening Day roster.

I think I will start my ROV Hall of Fame in 2138.
I definitely think waiting 5 years is too much so I will probably go with either a 1-year wait for eligibility for induction or a 3-year wait for eligibility for induction. I will keep thinking about it.

I voted 3 years as well.

As my wrestlers never retire , I come at it a bit differently. My requirement for induction in my HOF is the wrestler must've been active for a period of 10 years (10 real-time years), and that's it. If I were doing a more traditional fed, I'd favor a waiting period after retirement of either 3 or 5 years, and as a baseball fan, would lean more towards 5 years, for the reasons stated in this thread (letting the emotion die down, making sure they stayed retired, etc.). Interesting topic Zeke!

Stu, when I someday do Hall of Fames for my LOW and Indy feds, I won't have minimum retirement requirements for induction eligibility, but I do for COTG since it is a more linear based fed with official retirements etc.

Another question, do you guys think there should be a minimum number of years someone was active to be considered for a COTG Hall of Fame? For example, unless she reappears somewhere, Cosmic Woman only wrestled for 3 years. But she was dominant in my fed for those 3 years.
