Hello all!
Along with this fed being a homage to Legendary Professional Wrestlers, it's also a homage to Sunnyside Garden Arena.
Which starting in 1947 until it was torn down in 1977, hosted pro wrestling events.
I'm originally from Queens, New York and I find myself strongly drawn to black and white pictures of this arena. Like in a prior life, I caught a few cards there or something.
You ever get that?
There's a book online that's for sale by a photographer that was at a card there in November of 71'. The book captures the whole evening, including one of my favorites in action Chief Jay Strongbow, Karl Gotch & even my man Sky Low Low - among others.
The pictures from that book are what my minds eye pictures when I roll out this fed, that time period.
The French Connection is in the movies...Zeppelin's 4th album, The Stones Sticky Fingers, The Doors L.A. Woman and The Who's Who's Next albums were all out.
A gritty, grungy and a completely different kind of RAW, at least it feels that way to me.
We have three divisions; Heavyweight, Tag Teams and Ladies, all vying for the following championships:
LPW World Heavyweight Championship
LPW United States Championship
LPW World Tag Team Championship
LPW Women's World Championship
All of the wrestlers in this (with only a couple of exceptions - due to having to balance the match booking schedule that I'm using), competed at some point during the years between 1947 & 1977.
I'm just doing straight match and high level feud reporting, the match results tell the stories - as the wrestlers make their own choices.
Six cards in each game month.
The competition in this first month is crucial because the inaugural titles are up for grabs in month two.
I'm only using managers, valets and or entourages if they are either on the individual wrestlers cards and / or are built into the cards mechanics.
The wrestlers listed first on the posters section of our inaugural card below, (and subsequent cards), are wrestling as faces with the heels listed second.
The LPW's talent scout team of Sky Low Low & Little Beaver were even able to find a few folks that were not easy at all to find.
Wrestlers that who according to rumor, here say and urban / local legend, were still in competition somewhere...and weren't done yet.
Hope the roster reveals and the competition results are fun!
Take care, Bri.
