Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) w/Paul Ellering v Koko B. Ware & Virgil
Referee: Morgan Dollar
Dollar had strict instructions for both teams before the bell. Virgil stunned the fans with an early offensive flurry including a clothesline that dropped Hawk to the mat but Animal was able to tag in and crushed Virgil with a POWER SLAM for a near fall before a flying shoulder ram ended it after only two minutes. Winner: Warriors DUD
Hacksaw Jim Duggan v. Vampiro w/James Mitchell & Prince Kharis
Referee: Joey Marella
Vampiro took control early with kicks and his speed. Duggan resorted to an old fashion bear hug to slow things down and it worked. Duggan took over the match from this point with slams and Tough Guy Clotheslines. Vampiro kicked out after a FLYING SPEAR. Duggan had the fans support and just kept on coming including a piledriver for a near fall after Mitchell could not make the save. Mitchell was able to use some sort of spell to help Vampiro recover after a Tough Guy Clothesline but the advantage was short lived. Duggan finished the match with a FLYING SPEAR after 13 minutes. Winner: Duggan *** ½
“Macho Man” Randy Savage v. Nikolai Volkoff
Referee: James Beard
Volkoff sang for the fans who were anything but pleased. Both men were making their return to the territory and it was the powerful Russian who dominated the match thrashing Savage in and out of the ring. Just when it looked like things would be over after Savage barely escaped a Russian Bear Hug, Savage finally was able to pick up the pace and took over. However, a deathjump put Beard out of action (seven moves!) and when Savage hit FLYING ELBOW SMASH there were was no one to make the three count. Savage checked on Beard which allowed Volkoff to attack and he executed a BACKBREAKER DROP for an apparent victory of his own with no referee. Beard recovered to find both men busted open after a brawl on the floor! The action was back and forth but “Macho Man” began to press the attack. A near fall after a flying axe-handle to the floor had the fans roaring and Volkoff just kicked out after a neckbreaker clothesline and again after a knee drop. Savage landed another flying axe-handle to down Volkoff for the hard earned win after 20 minutes. Winner: Savage *****
Canadian Open Tag Team Champions Fabulous Kangaroos (Al Costello & Roy Heffernan) w/”Wild” Red Berry v. Moondogs (Moondog Rex & Moondog Spot) w/ Captain Lou Albano
Referee: Dick Woehrle
The action was back and forth early on with nether team having the advantage. The double teaming of the Kangaroos finally allowed them to get the upper hand. Heffernan was particularly impressive with his STEPOVER HOLDS on Moondog Rex and a timely distraction from Albano kept the action going. The Moondogs were able to start a run of quick tags to get back into the match before things spilled outside where Spot cracked Costello with his bone and earned a disqualification from Woehrle. Both teams brawled after the bell and to the back. Winners: Kangaroos by disqualification after 17 minutes. ** ½
Ilio DiPaolo v. David Taylor
Referee: Morgan Dollar
This was an epic battle from start to finish. Taylor and DiPaolo clearly had respect for each others skills and the match unfolded like a defensive game of human chess. They traded counters and holds and built an incredible tension at ringside as it took some time before the first near fall of the match. DiPaolo scored the first of several near falls. There were several moments when the fans thought it was over. A running head ram to buckle lead to a two and three quarters count for DiPaolo in one such near fall but in the next moment Taylor slammed DiPaolo to the mat and then hit a BRITISH SUPLEX for a near fall of his own. Taylor survived back to back AIRPLANE SPINS and later a third finisher from DiPaolo. Taylor looked to have the match won with a floatover fallaway slam but DiPaolo lifted a shoulder. The finish came when DiPaolo caught Taylor with a figure four arm bar for the submission after 37 minutes. Winner: DiPaolo *****
“Lightning” Rod Fenton v. Chaz Taylor
Referee: James Beard
After the marathon of the last encounter, this match seemed to go on fast forward as two newcomers battled it out. Fenton took over after early exchanges with an overhead body slam. A Boston Crab nearly submitted Taylor before the action spilled outside where Fenton smashed Taylor into the ring steps resulting in a rare count-out from Beard after four minutes. Winner: Fenton by count-out. DUD
Tully Blanchard w/J.J. Dillon v. The Crusher (inj)
Referee: Morgan Dollar
There was no real clear advantage in this one early until Crusher used an elbow drop to set a CRUSHER NELSON. Blanchard was quick to get on his bike to get to the floor but that was fine with Crusher who followed his foe outside. Crusher grabbed a chair and smashed Blanchard which caused Dollar to call for the bell after just four minutes. Crusher then grabbed Dillon and popped him for good measure. Blanchard jumped his opponent from behind and both men brawled to the back. Winner: Blanchard by disqualification *
NWA Canadian Heavyweight Champion Buddy Rogers & Ted DiBiase v. Billy Red Lyons & Ray Stevens
Referee: Morgan Dollar
The fans were roaring as Rogers was begging off in the opening moments of the match as Lyons unleashed an explosive offensive attack at the bell including a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK that nearly submitted the champion. DiBiase was able to finally get into the match and things settled down. The fans were treated to plenty of back and forth action from that point. Stevens and DiBiase continued their violent rivalry in and out of the ring. Stevens looked to have Rogers beat after BOMBS AWAY but the Nature Boy was able to kick out at the last second. Later, Lyons thought he had his own pin on Rogers with a rolling reverse cradle but Rogers kicked out of that as well. The finish came with Rogers cut off from his corner. A double team attack and rapid fire dropkicked allowed Stevens to land another BOMBS AWAY and get the pin after 20 minutes. Winners: Lyons & Stevens. *****
