Don Leo Jonathan (32) v. Harley Race (33)
Jonathan makes his return to the legend’s tournament and draws a multiple time world champion as his first-round opponent. Joey Marella calls for the bell and the fans settle in. Jonathan uses his size to get the upper hand and impresses with a two-handed choke lift. Race uses his fists to battle back and is met with forearms in return. Jonathan flings Race into the corner… Reversal! Jonathan bounces out into a Race clothesline. Race takes it to the floor, Dr. Mike Lano gets out of the way. Race keeps the upper hand with a head butt. Race gets the action back to the ring and focuses on the lower body with a pair of deathlocks. Jonathan escapes to the floor but Race shows no quarter and rams Jonathan’s leg onto the floor. Back in the ring, Race with a VERTICAL SUPLEX that stuns the fans but only nets a one count (R10/P2). Race then follows with a PILEDRIVER. Morella counts two and three quarters (R6/P5). Another VERTICAL SUPLEX shakes the ring. 1, KICK OUT (R11/P4). RACE IS ACTUALLY BOUNCED TO THE FLOOR! Race with a head butt and swinging neckbreaker. Jonathan takes a breather and regains the ring. Race is ready. PILEDRIVER. 1, 2, 3 (R6/P6).
