 Michel Côté dead at 72: French-Canadian actor known for his work in The Cruising Bar and C.R.A.Z.Y. passes away after battle with bone marrow disease Côté's career began in the 1970s with appearances in various French-Canadian TV shows. His first big screen hit was 1989's The Cruising Bar, a comedy about four men who go 'babe hunting' on a Saturday night. He was nominated for a Genie award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for the part. The star reprised his role nearly 20 years later in 2008's Cruising Bar 2, this time earning a Jutra Award nomination for best actor for the project. Côté delighted fans in C.R.A.Z.Y. as the patriarch of a large Catholic family of sons, one of whom struggles with his sexual identity. The part earned him a Genie award for Best Actor in 2005. The seasoned star appeared in more than two dozen films and around 20 television series over the course of his successful career. When he was between projects, he and pals Marc Messier, 75, and Marcel Gauthier, 73, would perform in the play Broue. The title comes from a colloquial term for the foam on the head of a glass of beer.

 Bob Bittner, longtime radio personality on WJIB AM in Cambridge, dies Bittner also owned four other ad-free stations that were located on Cape Cod and in Maine. WJIB, which was a part of "The Memories Stations" Bittner owned, played music from the 1930s through 1960s. Bittner was the owner and sole employee of WJIB. The station doesn't play any commercials and relied on non-deductible donations from listeners.

 Bill Lee, a well-regarded jazz musician who accompanied such artists as Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel and Harry Belafonte as well as scoring four of his son Spike’s early films, including the hit “Do the Right Thing” and two songs for “Jungle Fever,” has died. He was 94. Lee was a session bassist who has played on albums by Odetta, Woody Guthrie, Cat Stevens, Gordon Lightfoot, John Lee Hooker and Peter, Paul and Mary, among many others. He can be heard on Dylan’s “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue” and Lightfoot’s “Oh, Linda.” He played on Aretha Franklin’s Columbia album debut in 1960, “Aretha.” Lee wrote the soundtracks to Spike Lee’s “She’s Gotta Have It,” “School Daze,” “Do the Right Thing” and “Mo’ Better Blues.” Bill Lee also appeared in “Do the Right Thing.” Terence Blanchard took over the role starting with “Jungle Fever.”

Along with his brother and sister-in-law, Larsen founded The Magic Castle in 1963, touting it as a clubhouse for magicians and magic enthusiasts. The exclusive, private club remained just that for decades—later becoming the headquarters for The Academy of Magical Arts. Larsen was also a renowned writer for the game show Truth or Consequences for nearly two decades and was the creator and consultant for the $50 million Caesars Magical Empire at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, among other creative ventures

 Everwood's John Beasley Dead at 79 John Beasley, best known to TV audiences for his role as Irv Harper on the beloved WB drama Everwood, has died. He was 79 years old. His acting career began at the age of 45, with a recurring role on the short-lived ABC drama Brewster’s Place, opposite Oprah Winfrey. That was followed by guest turns on Early Edition, Millennium, Judging Amy and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. In 2002, he booked his first series-regular gig as the aforementioned Irv Harper on Everwood, which ran for four seasons and ended in 2006. In addition to his on-screen duties, Beasley served as the series’ narrator. Later on, he starred opposite Cedric the Entertainer and Niecy Nash on the TV Land sitcom The Soul Man, which wrapped its five-season run in 2016. Additional TV credits included Boston Legal, CSI: Miami, Detroit 1-8-7, Harry’s Law, NCIS, The Resident, Treme and Your Honor. On the big screen, he appeared in such films as The Mighty Ducks, Rudy, The Sum of All Fears, Walking Tall and The Purge: Anarchy. He made his final acting appearance in 2022’s Firestarter remake.
