Ex-Celtic striker Frank McGarvey dies aged 66

Art McNally, first NFL official enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, died. He was 97.

“Art McNally was a quiet, honest man of integrity. To see Art’s decades of service recognized with his enshrinement as part of the Class of 2022 was a special moment for the Hall," Hall of Fame president Jim Porter said in a statement Monday. "His legacy as a strong leader who helped usher in the advanced training of officials and the technology necessary to keep up with a faster and more complicated game will be preserved forever in Canton

Uche Nwaneri, a former guard in the NFL, passed away at the age of 38.

Family members say that he passed away due to a possible cardiac event.

He went to college at Purdue and was a 5th round selection by the Jaguars in 2007. Nwaneri saw limited action as a rookie during the Jaguars' 2007 playoff run, playing in 9 games with 1 start. The following season, he was elevated to starter after an injury to starting guard Vince Manuwai. In all, he appeared in 15 games during the 2008 season, starting 15 of them. He allowed 4.5 sacks during the season.

In 2009, Nwaneri and fellow guard Maurice Williams competed for the starting guard position opposite the returning Vince Manuwai. Nwaneri won the job; Williams was deactivated for much of the season before being released on December 5, 2009. Nwaneri appeared in all 16 games, starting 13 of them. He was only credited with allowing one-half of a sack. Nwaneri was also not penalized during the 2009 season.

Nwaneri was released on March 4, 2014.

Sergei Bautin, a Soviet-born ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League for the Winnipeg Jets, Detroit Red Wings and the San Jose Sharks passed away at the age of 55.

Winnipeg Jets GM Mike Smith drafted Bautin in the first round, 17th overall in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft.
Bautin ended up playing 130 games for the Jets, scoring 5 goals and 25 assists for 30 points and collecting 176 penalty minutes. He wore the number 3, and was usually paired with fellow Russian Igor Ulanov.
On March 8, 1994, Bautin, along with Bob Essensa, were traded to the Detroit Red Wings for Tim Cheveldae and Dallas Drake. After his stint with Detroit, Sergei then signed on as a free agent with the San Jose Sharks in 1995. He played the rest of the 1995–96 season with San Jose's IHL affiliate, the Kansas City Blades.

In addition to his NHL experience, Bautin was a significant member of the 1992 Unified Team (former Soviet Union) where they received Gold Medal honors by beating Canada 3–1.
Bautin continued his career playing for pro teams in Sweden, Germany and Japan before finishing his career in Russia.
After his retirement, he returned to Kansas City, where, as of January 2009, he is the head coach of the Kansas City Outlaws Bantam AA Hockey team. He also runs various hockey camps throughout the summer. He is also involved with Team Kansas, a player development program with an emphasis on team play and chemistry. The teams are divided by birth years and meet twice a week.
In 2010, Bautin started coaching for Colorado Evolution in Stapleton, Colorado. He coached all levels at B, A, AA, and AAA. Later, Bautin coached the Colorado Evolution U15 AAA to 2017 National Runner-Up after losing to the Yale Jr. Bulldogs 7-2.

He left the Colorado Evolution in the spring of 2018. He was also the head coach of Colorado Thunderbirds 2007 team.

And we already see why especially when we put in the people briefly in sports why this needs its own thread separate from the other celebrities. Surprised it took so long to put a referee in to the Hall of Fame, baseball has had umpires in theirs for years. RIP to all who passed.

Ken Block, rally car driving champion, action sports star, and DC Shoes co-founder is dead at the age of 55 following a snowmobile accident

Joseph Robert Herve Bobby "Rivet" RIVARD, a former center and left wing in the NHL, passed away at the age of 83.

The following is an excerpt from Mr. Rivard's online obituary: 'Bobby was not only a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, he was also an incredibly talented hockey player. Originally coached by Scotty Bowman and playing for the TPT Petes from 1958-60. He is a member of the Peterborough Sports Hall of Fame (2006). He played in both the American Hockey League and the NHL for the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1967. He continued his athletics playing in the Peterborough Old Timers Hockey and Baseball Leagues. Bobby also enjoyed the outdoors, golfing, fishing and spending time with family.'

Rivard played from the age of 19 till the age of 36 in the minors, with a brief but memorable stint in the NHL with the Pittsburgh Penguins during the 1967-1968 season. He played in 27 games that year and had 5 goals and 12 assists.

Charles Brown, a former tackle in the American Football League and Canadian Football League, passed away at the age of 86.

The following is an excerpt from Mr. Brown's online obituary: "Paw Paw was a standout football player at Mt. Vernon High School and his success led him to Southern Methodist University to play on a football scholarship. He decided to continue his collegiate career at the University of Houston and was recruited by the legendary golf coach Dave Williams. It was at the U of H that Paw Paw met Martha Edgil. They later married and had three children:
Chuck Brown, Luann Lubojasky (Rodney) and Billy Ray Brown (Cindy). After a highly successful football career in Houston, Paw Paw played professional ball for the Oakland Raiders and the Edmonton Eskimos. He made many meaningful friendships while playing collegiate and professional football which led him to the concrete industry in Houston. Throughout his career, Paw Paw was the go-to guy in the concrete business. He was responsible for many massive projects in the city."

Brown played 14 games for the 1962 Oakland Raiders and started in 13 of them. He then went north and played for the Edmonton Eskimos during the years 1964-1965.
