Another fun episode. When I was with CWFH, I mostly did ringside/backstage interviews but I did ring announce a time or two. It always surprised me when you’d run into a guy who hadn’t thought about what his weight or hometown was and they’d have to go think about it and get back to you. All my imaginary wrestling personas had Weights and Hometowns, I figured that’s the first thing you’d do when you come up with your gimmick. I definitely used numbered index cars when I did it too.

Great to get 2 different perspectives on the announcer gig and definitely got a chuckle out of me when talking 'No what's your wrestling weight and height' as if it's just an understood 20 lbs/2 inch mark up.

I used index cards when I was a ring announcer, and I always asked wrestlers for their weight & hometown before the show.
I remember one time when Rip Rogers told me that it didn't matter what I said his weight was, he was gonna give me grief over it!

Rip for Legends for sure.
Always love the little anecdotes. It brings so much to the game and the community.

You know, the true star of the podcast was also a ring announcer for a low indy my brother ran. Since I also did the music and the bell, I announced from the table next to the ring. That way I didn't need a tux.

I was the Sports Information Director for an NCAA Division II school in the early 90s. That was also the basic rule-of-thumb "mark up" we used for the Basketball roster every season.

At the high school where I teach, I know our football coaches over the years often bump up the players' heights and weights on the roster. Last year, there was a freshman listed at 4'10" and 90 lbs. and that was adding height and weight to his real stats!

I think my son was bigger than that in 4th grade.
