I'm looking at this nonstop $100 flight to Kansas City, Missouri. Since I have already been to Kansas City, Missouri (for 2 days on my way to Waterloo back in 2018,) I would then make the short drive to Kansas City, Kansas for a day and then drive to Omaha, Nebraska for a day and then ride over to Waterloo with TK. That way I can add two more states (Kansas and Nebraska) to my list on my way to Galacticon.
For Galacticon 2024 in Jamestown, I'm hoping after the convention to drive across New York state to see the baseball hall of fame in Cooperstown and then visit Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.

Today I booked my direct flight on Southwest to Kansas City, Missouri.
From there, as I mentioned before, I will rent a car to get to Kansas City, Kansas (it sounds like Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas are only about a 10 minute drive from each other?) and then to Omaha, Nebraska (so I get to add 2 more new states to my list) to meet TK for the ride to Waterloo later that week.

I can say this absolutely true. Your Google Maps will be super overworked during those drives in the Kansas City area. I think the airport is in Missouri, so yeah you can count that as Missouri, and then within a short drive you'll be Kansas City, KS. I'd recommend stopping at Waldo Pizza, depending on arrival time, or going to Jack's Stack - which has fantastic bbq. Depending on your time window, I'd also look at Chick-In Waffle which is downtown in Kansas City, Kansas. It is the best Fried Chicken and Waffles place in KC. Obviously if you are taking a red eye, Lamar Donuts is a must - the best donut place in KC. I absolutely recommend their old fashioned donut or their red velvet donut. |
