Meet Tony DeHaven!
I had the ... um... pleasure of meeting Tony at GalactiCon 2021 in Phoenixville, PA.
This is what happens when you get up early and go outside the hotel to enjoy your caffeine of choice.
I met Tony on Saturday morning when he walked up and just started talking to me, telling me he was a famous wrestler.
I told him why I was in Phoenixville and about the game, and that KURT ANGLE was in the game.
That's all it took.... He started telling me how he was in the infamous FOXCATCHER FARM program, which I guess he really was, and how he was on the mat with Angle, Coleman and all the rest.
I could tell he was an intense dude and a bit... unhinged, so I tried to choose my words carefully.
The next thing I know, he's wanting to show me wrestling moves on the sidewalk...!
I politely excused myself, making something up, and went back inside.
I told Mike M and Tournament Master about my encounter, and Mike said I know him - He went to high school with my brother Kevin and I.
Fastforward to Sunday morning, I'm back outside early and thinking please.... not again.
I'm sitting on a bench enjoying the dewy morning, when suddenly I'm put in a TIGHT chokehold from behind.
I don't struggle because I know who it is... He laughs and pats me on the back. "How ya doin bro?"
He proceeds to tell me more about FOXCATCHER and how good he was/is and what phenomenal shape he's still in.
He pulled off his shirt and ORDERED me to take his picture, and I followed the psycho's orders. LOL see below.
He said nobody today could touch him or his FOXCATCGER crew and I made an almost fatal mistake.
I said a name, just a name, and you would have thought I called his mother a dirty [BEEP] [BEEP]
I said... KHABIB NURMAGOMEDOV is pretty good on the mat.
I literally saw a switch flip......
The next thing I know he's in my face CLOSE, spitting on me as he YELLS!!!!
He was yelling so loud the lady working the front desk of the hotel came out and told him to stop and he did. I guess she knew him, small town and all.
I again literally saw the switch flip back and he was... ok.
I told him where we was doing Galacticon and said he should stop by. I just wanted people to believe me. LOL
... and he did! He ended up talking with Kevin Melesky for a bit because I guess they were in the same class - Mike M was 2 years behind them.
I will NEVER forget Tony DeHaven and GalactiCon 2021.....

What a frightening experience that must have been dealing with that lunatic on multiple occasions.

I have to say for someone who claims to be a famous wrestler it’s not a good sign that I’ve never heard of him and had to look up who he was.

It’s a good thing that it wasn’t me who encountered him. That chokehold from behind and the yelling in the face would have resulted in me shoving him and escalating the situation even further. If that had turned into a fight I’m sure he would have kicked my rear end but in the heat of the moment I doubt I would have been thinking about that.

The only positive thing to come out of that experience is that you now have an entertaining story to tell for years to come.

I knew from the first day he wanted to wrestle me on the brick patio or concrete sidewalk. Why? I'm sure I don't know.
He literally asked, then the choke hold and finally the yelling but I wasn't about to give him what he wanted.
I'm no fool and was not about to go to ground with an Olympic trained wrestler and I knew that's what would have happened if I let my anger get the best of me.
My only worry was I might have to shoot this crazy mother.... Just kidding, I don't carry.
