Looking at Link’s connections in Legends (and looking just at the Link years from roughly 83 to 88) and Link has many rivals and partners in the game.
Three of Link’s biggest rivals in the game are Andre the Giant, Magnum TA, and Terry Gordy. Link faced off against these three in Mid-South, Dallas, and Houston wrestling, often facing Andre in handicap matches where he teamed with other heels.
In Florida, Link teamed with Abdullah the Butcher. He frequently faced off against Blackjack Mulligan and Brian Blair. He even faced a young Marty Jannetty.
A run in WWF in 1985 saw Link repeatedly take on SD Jones. He also faced off against B. Brian Blair, Paul Orndorff, Tony Garea, Mike Rotundo, Barry Windham, Lanny Poffo, Randy Savage, Dynamite Kid, and Tony Atlas. He was part of the Bobby Heenan Family and teamed with Adrian Adonis and Big John Studd.
In several runs in World Class, Link worked with Bruiser Brody, King Kong Bundy, Rick Rude, and the Grappler.
In two lengthy runs in UWF/Mid-South Link faced off against Eddie Gilbert while also teaming with Ted DiBiase and the Fantastics. He also worked with Steve Williams, Jim Duggan, Koko Ware, Sam Houston and One Man Gang.
Near the end of his run in the late 80s, Link formed a team with fellow LOWer Bill Irwin, working in both the fading World Class and the rival Wild West Wrestling outlaw territory.
Looking at Cagematch, it seems Link also made very irregular appearances in Central States and St Louis. At one of those Central States cards he faced the hard to picture pairing of Jannetty and Robert Gibson.
Two names in and we have some a pair of long asked for color updates. We also have two men with deep connections to both the Dallas territory and Mid-South. Is a theme emerging? I guess we’ll find out on Black Friday, but I’m already super excited for this set.
