So I saw this in another thread with people talking about the Alpha Stone and the Gladiators Hive mind, but thinking through all the years of COTG, is there any storyline or game mechanic that really bothered you or you just didn't like?

Maybe it's just me, but I had a hard time getting into the whole second realm vs. fourth realm storyline. I just wasn't a big fan of characters like Vallah, Atman, Maramus, etc. To me, it wasn't the same as War Games, Sudden Death, Civil War, Mega Tournament, and CPC.

One hundred-percent the move to color cards.
Also, the Centra storyline initially was where I fell off in my first playing time, and when I took a like 15 year break. It just seemed too weird for me.

The reset with New Beginnings. When that happened I stopped following canon and just did whatever I wanted to.

I'd say the dissolution of other promotions like aCe, CPC/P.O.W., and GWFZ. We did get new promotions like FTR, CWF, and Kronos but those are now on the back burner as well.

The Pit Viper heel turn upset me as a youngster but I'm fine with it now.

Not a big thing but when new characters are introduced and gone in a year or three. I mean if I was not really into them it is not a big deal but if I was it sucks. Especially when other characters keep going on with no changes be it getting better or worse.
One pet peeve of mine is not story based but handbook based. When a character returns and gets a new card but their finisher is the same or changes name but is the same move it is not described again. For old players like me I have to go find my old handbook to remember the move but for new players they will have no idea what the move is. I know we could just make up the move, and I have during lazy times, but it is part of the canon I like to stick with as it is the character's finisher. At the least if the name is not obvious let us know if it is a pinning move or a submission one.

I do wish Tom could find a truly top, lead babyface that he could stick with. I know he prefers Villains and finds them more interesting but it's still kind of a failing that Alpha Force washed out and Colossus, Endgame, and Shayne all got turned. Nexus is the best pure babyface in the game's history but he was also never a top guy. The most successful top babyface in the game's history was probably Pegasus and even he had to be a Villain first.
As far as overarching storylines, I didn't reach the "this is getting to be too much" point until the Black Death. I was okay with a certain amount of alternate universes, and Godsend was such a great character that he made up for any weaknesses of guys like Petarra and Paladin, but the Black Death is kind of where I reached my breaking point with "the literal fate of the universe is contingent on the outcome of wrestling matches" writing.

The “fate of the universe” stuff kinda started it for me, but well before the Black Death stuff. It was when Godsend, Valhalla, Malamus enterered

It eventually hit Dragonball Z level where the downtime is only to prepare for the next great Galactic threat that can only be solved by wrestling.
