Shawbucks is right next door and open until midnight Thursday and 2AM Friday and Saturday. Randy, who promoted the COTG Live Event 10 years ago I believe still bartends there on the weekends. Next door to what? La Quinta, which it seems almost everyone is staying at. |

Tonight I booked my hotel in Buffalo for Thursday night (there is no point in me going to Jamestown on Thursday as I will be going to the AAA Buffalo game in Buffalo on Thursday night.) My hotel is reportedly within walking distance of American Falls, so I will have to check that out next Thursday afternoon before I go meet J and Tim at J's brewery.

My new driver's license finally arrived in the mail today (last night at the movie theater cantina I got carded and I accidentally gave them my expired ID but they apparently did not realize it expired last week) which means I can now officially book my rental car near Cooperstown the day after Galacticon and book my hotels in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. I would have renewed my license earlier, but I found out late last month the DMV here requires an appointment weeks in advance instead of just showing up at the DMV as I did in the past.
My trip to Galacticon was never in jeopardy as I could have boarded the plane to Buffalo with my passport which is how I got on the plane last weekend to go to GCW in Los Angeles and then fly back home. But I think I needed a valid driver's license in order to book a rental car and drive to the states of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. And now I have my updated license with the Real ID star in advance of next year's Real ID travel requirements, so tonight I booked my hotel in Vermont (in Bennington) and in New Hampshire (in Concord) during the week after Galacticon. Now I just need to book my hotel in Maine and book the rental car for the week after Galacticon. I fly out to Buffalo in 5 nights.

I don't know what the liquor laws are like in America but I work in a liquor store up here in B.C. and we're allowed to accept expired and foreign ID as long as we can clearly recognize the person in the photo as the person buying the booze; I had to refuse service to a guy a few months ago because he gave me his passport with a photo on it that was taken when he was 12 or 13 years old. I was able to drive even while awaiting for my new license in the mail because I still had my old license and a note from the DMV that qualified for a temporary extension for driving but I am not sure how that applies in regards to buying a beer (and that note was in my truck anyway) or in trying to get a rental car (would that DMV temporary extension note allow me to pick up a rental car?) |
