My friend who I attended Double or Nothing with this year is going to be a referee at the CAC Sunday night show On the Fly.

Sadly, I've had to cancel my upcoming trip to Las Vegas including the CAC reunion. This morning our head store manager had a heart attack at work and had to have subsequent heart surgery at the hospital. There's a lot of uncertainty as to how much time he'll be off from work between this and the recovery. We're already having staff issues (it's so hard to find good help these days) including trying to find a second supervisor to help out myself and the other manager. Since I'm in a supervisory position the store owner asked me if I could cancel my trip in order to help out which I agreed to once he promised me he would compensate me for my flight and any other activities I can't get a refund for. While I could have said no I wouldn't be able to enjoy my trip knowing that the one remaining manager/supervisor was working 16 hour days in my absence. I'm very disappointed and I felt bad having to email Tom to tell him that I can no longer help out with game demos at the CAC as promised. However, the most important thing is that our head manager recovers and gets back to full health. I'll likely be working every day now for at least a few weeks so I probably won't be posting here much in the near future. Once things settle down a bit and we're back to full strength at work then I'll probably try to take another trip; possibly still to Las Vegas. Paul, I was sorry to hear that you are not able to make it to the CAC this year as I was looking forward to meeting you. Let me know if you do indeed travel here to Las Vegas at a different time. Thanks, Zeke. I was looking forward to meeting you as well. If things are back to normal in a month or so I may try for Las Vegas again in October or November. With the exception of the CAC and the Aviators I can still do all of the other activities I had planned including a wrestling show as there seems to be a whole bunch of them running there.

I’m sorry to hear about that, Paul. It says a lot about you as a supervisor and coworker that you would put your trip aside for them in a time like that. Tip of the cap to you for it and I hope you’re able to take a fun trip for yourself when appropriate. Thank you. I appreciate that. Today our manager hired someone new and one of the staff members from another one of the owner's liquor stores is coming to help out at our store one night a week. On Thursday and Friday I'm teaching our most experienced cashier how to do all the nightly management procedures. Once she's learned that she'll be working two evenings a week which will allow me to still have my two days off. Just got to get through the next eight days and then my schedule should return to normal. Looking forward to my next paycheck; With the extra hours I'm working this week (which I'll be getting the overtime rate on) I'll definitely be singing The Million Dollar Man's theme song on payday.😁

Once things settle down a bit and we're back to full strength at work then I'll probably try to take another trip; possibly still to Las Vegas. Sad to hear this. Hope he recovers soon and all the way. I know what you are going thru. Something like it happened to me in 2022 causing me to cancel going to my first GCon. But I made it this year and you will make it to Vegas. Hopefully twice. Later this year and for CAC in a year or two. Try to not work to hard. Thankfully our store manager's surgery went well and he's at home recovering. There's still a lot of uncertainty about when he'll be back so I don't think planning a vacation this year is a good idea. The cashier I trained on the management procedures picked it up very quickly. I trained her on Thursday and she was able to do everything herself on Friday with a few minor hiccups here and there which is to be expected. This allowed me to have my regular two days off again this week after 12 days straight of work. Last night I was able to roll out my monthly COTG Supercard and tonight I went to the baseball game. The fatigue really kicked in on Sunday night. After I was done with the paperwork and cash I had to wait a bit for my co-worker to finish mopping the floor. I actually dozed off in my chair for about 20 minutes and she had to wake me up when she was done and ready to leave. I may try to go to Las Vegas twice next year: Once for the CAC and possibly in April for Wrestlemania. We'll see how things go. In addition to compensating me for my non-refundable trip expenses our store owner has also kindly offered to personally pay for my flight whenever I do happen to head out to Vegas as he feels terrible about this whole situation. I also received a VERY generous pay increase as well so he's definitely doing a lot to make it up to me.

This year's Charlie Smith referee CAC award honoree, Bill Alphonso is celebrating his 67th birthday this weekend. Since they both actually live here in Las Vegas, I definitely expect both RVD and Sabu to be at the CAC too again this year for Alphonso.
