It is a damn feeding frenzy for rooms down here. We had no rooms available when I got to work at 3 PM. Anytime I would get a call to cancel a room I would cancel it, and it would be sold in under a minute. Often under 30 seconds. We are a 73-room property and if we were twice the size, we would still be full as I have turned away so many potential guests.

What was your property charging if you don't mind me asking?

What was your property charging if you don't mind me asking? $169 plus tax which is our regular price for October. We do not lower prices, but we do not raise them even in a safe amount that would not be considered price gouging.

Speaking of hotel rooms, it is a feeding frenzy down here. No rooms available within an hour of where I am. When we get a cancellation and release that room it is rebooked within 30 seconds. Gas seems to be out at all stations within an hour as well. Still maybe a few in out of the way areas might have some. I lost power for 36 hours but most of that was me sleeping or at work. Happy to have it back on. If any of you other members are in central FL stay safe. It is crazy out there right now.

Hmm, I posted a video and it showed it would be there in the preview but nothing. Oh well, I will try later.

Too many places gouge the hell out of people in need

I am not a fan of the Attorney General Moody but one thing I like is she goes after companies that do that during a hurricane. In the past I heard and saw smaller hotels would double or even triple their rates. The worst was one hotel over in Tampa a few years back had the owner and/or manager go to guests already checked in and demanded more money. That was because they had people offering more money for the room. For instance if the original guest paid $140 and another guest offered $200 the guest already checked in had to pay $60 to match the offer or leave. That was disgusting but they got in trouble for it.

I don't know if it's illegal, but it's definitely unethical and immoral to raise the rates in a crisis. Glad to hear that all is well with you. Hopefully, this will be the last hurricane to hit Florida this year. I can't imagine dealing with two catastrophic hurricanes in two weeks time.

There are laws on the books here making it illegal. I have heard tale of years ago they had three real bad ones in a year over like a month or so. I hope this is the end too. It is going to take a long time for a lot of people to get their lives back to normal.
